About the Author Dr. Dorene O'Hara is a summa cum laude graduate of the University of Connecticut with undergraduate degrees in English and Biophysics. She obtained a Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania and her M.D. from Harvard Medical School. After a 30 year career in clinical medicine and research, she has branched into teaching high school and college students. She has teaching credentials and has passed the Praxis for Elementary Education, Middle and High School Math and Science, and K-12 Education. Specializing in standardized test methods, Dr. O'Hara has developed materials designed to help the SAT or ACT student gain at least 150-250 points on the SAT and 3-5 points on the ACT. For the new SAT and PSAT, Dr. O' Hara has already taken and reviewed these exams and developed new teaching materials. Dr. O'Hara works with many students with ADHD and other learning or processing disorders. Accordingly, she has incorporated her techniques for these students in this new volume. Dr. O'Hara continues to do some medical research while teaching students all levels of mathematics, all high school science, English, U.S. history, and general writing. She is the mother of two adult daughters, both distinguished college graduates; she resides in Northern Virginia.

By Alexandra Mattis I have been a math teacher (and science and writing and whatever else is needed) to students with disabilities for over a decade now. SAT prep is in high demand, and I must say I was really looking forward to getting this book when it popped up on my radar recently. However, I must say I am disappointed. The ADHD section was tiny, most of the "secrets" were pretty basic & straight-forward, and the language-rich math section had no real strategies.I’m going to set aside my complaint that the math section being overwhelmingly short (blink and you’ll miss it) and dismal in terms of strategizing. (Getting up on my soapbox for a moment, I must gripe that half of the score is considered to be 1/4 - 1/3 of the test and such a small portion of most books, when you will now find data analysis and basic algebraic thinking tested in every section of the exam just as you do every day in real life).Instead, I’ll focus on the branding that this is geared somewhat toward struggling students and those with ADHD and other students with disabilities that affect their learning.First of all, the writing style is geared toward the author’s peers, mainly teachers, tutors, and parents, not stressed-out, anxious teens and certainly not students with ADHD or language-based learning disabilities.Secondly, the section geared specifically geared toward the LD and ADHD population is a mere 3 pages in length, including an oversized table explaining why students with specific executive skills dysfunctions (including ADHD students, but many other populations share that burden) have difficulty taking and studying for standardized exams of this magnitude. However, it does not offer any strategies aimed toward accommodating those issues or surmounting them.For SAT prep, I highly recommend McGraw-Hill’s main SAT cross-platform book by Christopher Black (http://smile.amazon.com/dp/1259585891) for strategies for all learners, including high-performing learners and those with disabilities (the new 2016 SAT book should come out in late October).To supplement this general study guide, for students with ADHD and other disabilities that affect a student’s learning and performance (including the twice-exceptional, a.k.a. the gifted LD, student), there are two spectacular study guides: _LD SAT Study Guide: Test Prep and Strategies for Students with Learning Disabilities_ by Paul Osborne (http://smile.amazon.com/dp/159257887X) and _Barron's SAT Strategies for Students with Learning Disabilities_ by Dr. Toni Welkes (http://smile.amazon.com/dp/0764137972). They might not be up-to-date but the strategies and pacing are sound.
