About the Author
Daniel Mark Epstein is the author of eight prize-winning books of poetry and six highly acclaimed biographies, including "The Ballad of Bob Dylan." His honors include the Rome Prize in 1978, a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1984, and an Academy Award in Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 2006. He lives in Baltimore, Maryland.

Until I began to internalize that voice, until I came to feel that voice familiar to me, I was not really getting this poetry. Once I started hearing the consistent, always distinct voice, the concrete substance of the work began to make itself accessible. From that point on I was swept along for an exciting, varied and always profound ride into meanings of life,This poetry requires that the reader let go of the expectation, driven into us by the digital age, that the essence of a work should be given up in the first bite. Not the poetry of Dawn to Twilight.
3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. New Poetry Collection is College Syllabus Worthy By aforelife I am so enraptured by Daniel Mark Epstein's Dawn to Twilight: New and Selected Poems! As a college instructor, I plan to assign this collection to my students. I have no doubt that they will be equally mesmerized by it. Epstein's poetry is relevant. It's important. It destabilizes time and space in the most delicious of ways. They, too, will love all of that. The poems here are raw, haunting, comforting, and disconcerting all at once. Moreover, I love the way the poet speaks about his work in small vignettes--the notes--at the book's conclusion. Such a delightful surprise tucked away at the end!

By Nellie Seiler I have long admired Daniel Mark Epstein's gifts as a narrative and dramatic poet, strengths that have also won him so much acclaim as a biographer. What surprised and delighted me in reading Dawn to Twilight is his captivating charm as a lyric poet, his love poems, short, explosive narratives, and meditations. I think he should have included some of the better known dramatic monologues like "Lafayette Square" and "The Assassins" but I love the intimacy of what has been selected. You can hear a consistent voice over a lifetime, a man breathing on every page.
