By Granitecarver It's humorous, it's serious; it's sad, it's happy; above all, it's illustrative of an endlessly fascinating world by a man who remembers what he sees and does and knows how to put in words. The main description of the book couldn't have said it better: You'll want to keep turning the pages.

Another stimulating Maisey Yates read. Maisey takes us on a dark journey of love between two cynics. Logan is used to being in control and Addison is the one thing that can make him lose that. Addison is trying process events and secrets that have just been revealed. Complicated characters that little by little and piece by piece expose their pains and strengths in a compelling read.

By Ava and Brianna @ Always Books Part OneI was browsing Amazon and this book popped up as free so I thought why not; I'll give it a try. As soon as I started reading I was intrigued, I really like the way in which the author set up the story. Maisey drip fed us history all the while creating intrigue with the events that surrounded Addison and Logan.Logan is the closed off billionaire with many secrets. He was shipwrecked on an island and hasn't long since returned to civilisation. Although he hides from the public, he agrees to help out an old acquaintance by giving Addison a job as an intern. Of course, Addison's presence messes up his recluse life style.Addison is surrounded by family scandal. She needs to disappear and working for a friend of her brother seems like the only solution. Although Addison knows nothing more than what the papers report about the mysterious Logan, her interest is piqued.I really enjoyed this first instalment and I found the author's writing easy to get into. Both characters interested me as did their circumstances and I can't wait to follow this series and start the second instalment.Book one is free, take a chance and download it as you might discover a new favourite today.Part TwoI didn’t mind the second instalment of this story, my interest is still piqued, I can feel the rising sexual tension between Logan and Addison and Logan’s story continues to intrigue me. However, I feel the story is losing momentum by being split up into chunks, it doesn’t read like a series of novellas it literally is a story cut up and divided into a small group of chapters. Following the cliffhanger I do want to read on. I enjoy the author’s writing and the story is refreshing.Parts Three and Four*I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.*After the cliffhanger of part two I was eager to continue with this story. Up until now, I felt the story was moseying along at a steady pace. It was only after Logan exposed his deepest secret to Addison that the speed picked up and both characters came into their own.The author’s writing had me caring for both characters. Addison and Logan had expectations and society rules to conform to. But locked away from the outside world, they could be real and raw with each other. Both exposed their insecurities and yet they both still wanted more.I really enjoyed the last half of The Billionaire’s Intern. It was sexy, endearing and had me rooting for both characters. There was just the right amount of drama to wrap up the story and even though there might have been a touch of instalove. I was too far gone to care.If you like billionaire romances, you need to check this one out because, like me, you might just discover a great new author. ~Ava

By Sammy Baker Secret MasterNora Flite is such a master at creating a unique story that grabs you from start to finish, and this book was no exception. Naomi is a down on her luck artist who is just about to give up on her craft when she receives the offer of a lifetime from an enigmatic billionaire. Once she is working in his mansion, she stumbles upon something she never would have expected to, and things get wild from that point on. Naomi is a character who wears her heart on her sleeve and isn’t afraid to take chances. I felt for her throughout the story, and was rooting for her to finally find her happiness after all of the struggles she had gone through. As for Seth, he was so sexy and mysterious, and I loved the few chapters we got from his POV. It’s hard to get into too much detail as I don’t want to give away anything from the story, but I will say that this book was so entertaining and the sex scenes between the two characters were so incredibly steamy. I read this book in one sitting because I couldn’t put it down. Great book!

His offer of painting a mural for him with the promise of a letter of recommendation to the art school she'd been trying to get By I Love To Read I received a copy of this book for an honest review. This story was riveting! I couldn't put it down.Seth frightened Naomi. He was out of her league. His offer of painting a mural for him with the promise of a letter of recommendation to the art school she'd been trying to get into for the past three years was too good to pass up. His only requirement was to follow the rules of the contract she had to sign. She had free reign of his mansion except the room with the golden door.Of course, when guests arrived one evening in gowns and suits, all wearing masks, her curiosity got the best of her, and she would never be the same again. Naomi was introduced to a world of dominance and submission she soon craved for, particularly Master Onyx. She soon discovered she would never allow another Dom to touch her, but the consequences of her actions cost her everything she desired.Seth couldn't get the rebellious Naomi out of his mind. He had to possess her, bend and break her. This is their story, a dark romance that had me on the edge of my seat, wondering what would happen next.

8 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Dark, sweet and sexy! By LovesHappyEndings This wasn't a short book, but it flew by fast. I'd love to read more about Naomi and Seth! He's a billionaire with an artist's soul, and Naomi is... well, the perfect counter to him. He wants her even before he realizes that he needs her, and vice versa. Every time Naomi encountered him, I was on the edge of my seat, excited about what might happen. Their tension was magnetic! Great romance, dark in the right places, sexy in the rest, and just a little sweet!

We’re In This Together: Public-Private Partnerships in Special and At-Risk-Education is a timely book that explores the use by public schools of private education companies to meet the needs of some of the nation’s most challenged and challenging students. The book examines variations of use by states as well as the cultural attitudes toward the private sector to address these core functions of public schooling. The book offers grounded and thought provoking perspectives on: the legal framework of PL94-142 and its successor IDEA; the disconnect between the needs of young children with autism and public school special education services; and the significant size of the at-risk population and the shortcomings of efforts to serve those students. Written as qualitative research in the form of ethnographic participant observation, key sources in the literature are cited and four dozen knowledgeable people in positions of significant authority are interviewed on the interface of public education and the private sector in special and at-risk education. A foreword is provided by Barbara Byrd Bennett, CEO of the Chicago Public Schools.

We're In This Together: Public-Private Partnerships in Special and At-Risk-Education, by Mark K. Claypool, John Michael McLaughlin

Review The authors of We’re In This Together are founding members of Educational Services of America, and they conducted interviews with forty-eight professionals in the PPP arena, from educators to company leaders to attorneys, to bring this book together. . . .[F]or anyone doing specific research to back up their claims of the need for a PPP, or those completing a scholarly report, this book is a good start. . . .Overall this book is professional and comprehensive without being overwhelming. (VOYA)Our nation's autistic and other at-risk students require a 'by any means necessary' response that our already over-stressed public education system has struggled to provide on its own. But things are starting to change and minds are being opened to new ways of meeting the important needs of these precious young people. We're in this Together looks at some innovative models and public-private partnerships which show that serving special needs children can be done well if we are willing to rethink some longstanding assumptions and arrangements within public education. It begs the question: can we do better for kids? The answer, we see, is a resounding yes. (Joe Williams, director of Democrats for Education Reform, New York, NY)A significant contribution to our understanding of the viability and importance of markets in the provision of education. The authors provide a much needed call for a wider array of avenues to reach students place at peril by society. (Joseph F. Murphy, associate dean, Peabody College and Frank W. Mayborn Professor of Education, Vanderbilt University)Mark Claypool and John McLaughlin have waded into the vital but often overlooked question of how public-private partnerships can help school districts serve their students more effectively. Especially when it comes to at-risk students and children with special needs, schools and systems can use plenty of help. Claypool and McLaughlin have penned a timely, practical volume that can help educators and private providers work together more effectively and accountably. (Frederick M. Hess, director of education policy studies at the American Enterprise Institute)Considering the need to close the gap between cost of delivery and certainty as to effectiveness of solution for the exceptional learner, Mark Claypool and John Mclaughlin have taken on the oft-ignored but important support layer of private-public partnerships in the USA. There are no two more experienced curators of relevant and pragmatic information on this topic, which should be required reading for professionals and parents of up to 20% of the national student population. (Frank A. Bonsai, director of entrepreneurship, Towson University)As a both a business owner and advocate for the advancement of Chicago's youth, I have seen the impact private businesses partnerships can make on a community level, first hand. We're in this Together provides a fresh perspective on the ways non-traditional partnerships can provide solutions to address complex issues within our educational systems. Meet two of this nation's greatest visionaries, Mark Claypool and John McLaughlin, who are determined to accomplish both for every learner in every classroom throughout the US. These two tenacious education leaders have authored a most timely book that educators, parents, advocates, Congress and every education stakeholder must read. They insightfully and sensitively define the past, shed light on the present and illuminate a path for every student who is challenged to attain a quality education in our public schools. I hope we all listen, hear and act on their clarion call for all of our children. (Bruce H. Miles, Ed.D., Big River Group, LLC)Congrats to John McLaughlin and Mark Claypool for this groundbreaking book that shares the many challenges public schools face today and explores how private, often for-profit companies can provide the help needed to ensure more at-risk students can indeed find success. Here she's gone beyond the limiting format (that was getting annoying in her previous books) of having a tough-as-nails but cuddly-as-a-kitten heroine solve the crimes. The plotting in "Embassy Row" is much more carefully crafted, as British Ambassador Geoffrey James dies after his own party under mysterious circumstances. This is the first of Truman's books where you won't have guessed the villain by about 50 pages in. The characters are a bit better, but Truman's efforts at cop-talk and cop-walk still fall woefully short. Hero Sal Morizio makes lots of dumb naive mistakes for a veteran big city detective. He's the least credible of all the characters. Truman also plays some of the same riffs as in her previous books: she spends a lot of time describing D.C. cafes and restaurants, but is woefully uninformed about how government offices actually operate. For example, there is no "British Liaison office at the State Department", and CIA isn't called "the Company" by anyone but callow writers. But the very worst and most annoying mistake in the book is Truman's repeated and insistent assertion that Iranians are Arabs. They aren't, they're Muslim but not Arab.Overall, "Embassy Row" is better than "Supreme Court" or "White House", but there's still lots of room for improvement.

I have not read a book by her in which any of the British characters were nice. Here the prime nasties are all British, from the murder victim ~ the Ambassador ~ to the planner and executer of the cover-up and the people who end up giving our protagonist clues. The only Britons of any attraction are incidentals who wander in and out of the book in a page or two. Sadly, this is not my only complaint about the book: I don't like Truman's insistance on some details ~ locations, specific stores, clothing ~ which she uses to establish her credibility. Nor has she invented an even plausible plot ~ the British Ambassador to Iran knew weeks beforehand about the Ayatollah's takeover in '79, including the plan to capture the American embassy, and the only use he made of the information was to plan a smuggling operation? Please. Stick to biography.

Great characters, good plot makes fine read By Edgar Allan Poet Murder on Embassy Row is an excellent novel with fully fleshed-out characters and a compelling plot. The main characters are decent, likable people working against a corrupted system that tries several nefarious means to dissuade them from continuing their investigation into the murder of a British official at a UK Embassy on American soil. The touchy nature of diplomatic immunity and an embassy's status as foreign-owned soil in another country brings special problems to the murder investigation. Detective Sal Morizio and partner Constance Lake won't let go once they grasp the fact that something is very wrong with the picture the Brits have painted of the crime, with American political cooperation. There's a conspiracy here to obfuscate the truth, but they can't figure out why. The only reason this review didn't merit 5 stars is due to some factual problems which diminished the novel a bit. Most of these mistakes have been pointed out by other reviewers, including references to "the Company" by people who wouldn't use that term. and other similar mistakes that show a lack of thorough research.

Good jumpstart for an aspiring game developer By Laaksonen Mika As a professional game developer and experienced instructor I know quite well how hard it is to teach modern game development. Although we have several game engines available and we do not have to program everything from scratch (unless we want to), it is still quite daunting task to learn actual game development. Modern game editors like Unity 3D, Unreal Engine, Cocos etc. are still complex development environments with numerous features, functions and plug ins. Biggest problem for total novice is where he should begin and what path to proceed. However, I found this book to be an excellent guide for a total novice, a person who is interested in developing games, but has no experience in digital development and very limited programming experience (or none whatsoever). The reader is guided through all necessary basic steps: obtaining all mandatory software (which is free), installation and getting familiar with editor environment. After that you proceed with basic components of a game: building scenes, objects, actors, using materials, light sources etc. This book limits development to Unreal Blueprint scripting. This is an understandable choice, since it makes learning much more easier. And it is carefully explained that Blueprints have limitations, and for more advanced stuff you really have to use C++. A positive surprise is a chapter on Unreal Matinee which is used to create cinematics and cut scenes. After this you are guided through how to publish your game.Although the title emphasizes Android development, this book is useful even if that is not your only target platform. I can recommend this book to a novice who wants to learn the basics of game development using Unreal Engine 4.

Essential as an starting point to develop Android Games with Unreal Engine 4 By Borja Lopez Montilla Since Unreal Engine 4 was made freely available for indie developers at the beginning of this year, I've been reading every book it is being published about the topic. I would buy "Learning Unreal Engine Android Game Development" along with "Learning Unreal Engine iOS Game Development" (Muhammad A. Moniem) to cover entirely the main technologies for mobile platforms and 2D and 3D developments. "Learning Unreal Engine Android Game Development" guides you through a tutorial about how to develop a simple 3D game and optimize it for Android. It is cleanly written and concise. It teaches you the main points of Unreal Engine and even covers one point I've been missing in other books: Matinee, the Unreal cinematic editor. The Android part is well explained including the bureaucracy to make your game published in Play Store, although for second edition I would ask an example of how to integrate some of the external services, like Google services, in your apps (achievements, leaderboards or in-app purchases) as they are mentioned like possibilities but not actually implemented in the book's example.

I have always loved the Unreal engine due to its popularity and simplicity and wanted a book that will teach me how to develop games for mobile devices. Learning Unreal Engine Android Game Development therefore couldn't have come at a better time for me. The book begins with an overview of the Unreal Engine and later does a good job of explaining what almost every button and menu in the editor does. After this you are ushered into developing a real game which truly tests and develops your skills on different aspects of game development. The author uses very clear and simple English that makes it easy to follow. The book also made extensive use of the engine's visual scripting system known as Blueprint. How to use the unreal engine for cutscenes in games was also touched on albeit briefly by the author. The final chapter provided insights into using unreal motion graphics (UMG)for menus as well as a guide on how to package and publish your game. If you are new to the UE4 and want to develop games for mobile devices, then look no further than this book.

Education is threatened on a global scale by forces of neoliberalism, through high stakes accountability, privatization and a destructive language of learning. In all respects, a GERM (Global Education Reform Movement) has erupted from international benchmark rankings such as PISA, TIMMS and PIRL, causing inequity, narrowing of the curriculum and teacher deprofessionalization on a truly global scale.

In this book, teachers from around the world and other educational experts such as Andy Hargreaves, Ann Lieberman, Stephen Ball, Gert Biesta, Tom Bennett and many more, make the case to move away from this uneducational economic approach, to instead embrace a more humane, more democratic approach to education. This approach is called ‘flipping the system’, a move that places teachers exactly where they need to be - at the steering wheel of educational systems worldwide.

This book will appeal to teachers and other education professionals around the world.

Review

"This book is a collection of powerful essays to examine, critique and even promise emancipation from what it describes as the deleterious, neoliberal reforms of education systems around the world over the past couple of decades. Articles from an international array of teachers, academics and writers…are packed into this fascinating and fairly dense academic read. […] the thrust of the book is positive and leaves the reader with six guidelines of future action…"– InTuition

"This book takes a scholarly look at a world-wide issue… teachers from around the world and other educational experts, make the case to move away from this uneducational economic approach, to instead embrace a more humane, more democratic approach to education. This approach is called ‘flipping the system’, a move that places teachers exactly where they need to be - at the steering wheel of educational systems worldwide. It's not a book to be tackled by the faint-hearted, but once you become engrossed in the book, it is a fascinating read and a reassuring look at where teachers really should be - at the very centre of education systems, driving them forward." – Parent in Touch
