21 of 23 people found the following review helpful. Brief General Introduction By Jim Fuqua This book is a good short introduction to Echo. As I have not yet purchased the device, I can't speak to the accuracy of the book.Based upon what I read in this book I will probably purchase an Echo. Echo appears to be the a significant step toward a fully automated house. It might be like playing with HAL 9000. For a fully automated house, Echo would need to know whether the house is occupied or not and by whom. It is not there yet. It would also need to know how far away you are from home to get a likely return time --- like some current thermostats that adjust the temperature for your return. Echo does not appear to be there yet, but it may be if it can talk to the apps that control such devices by monitoring the GPS on your Android phone. Hopefully, that will come. The author should have a competent proof-reader correct the grammatical errors. There are incorrect choices of words, missing conjunctions and other simple errors in English grammar. The author does get his message across and the grammatical errors are just a minor distraction.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Intrigue, murder and smokin' hot smex By DiDi GPBR "Legal Heat" has everything you could possibly want in a good Romantic Suspense. Intrigue, sex, death threats, sex , lust, sex, a hot attorney, sex. Yea, loved this story! Oh, and the sex wasn't bad either!Sarah Castille did a fantastic job of combining the right amount of intrigue, murder, drugs, smoking-hot sex and a little bit of legalese to come up with a wonderful read that holds your attention and keeps you turning the pages. You honestly didn't know what was going to happen next - who was going to turn up dead - who was going to double-cross who. What you do know is that the electricity between Katy and Mark is off the charts!Katy Sinclair is a mother of 2 with an ex-husband that just won't quit. She threw him out after his numerous affairs and he just won't stay away - especially after his latest conquest left him. Now, he wants back into her life and she just won't let him in. Especially after her encounter with Mark at Carpe Noctem. Life is starting to take a turn for Katy both in her love life and in her career. She just may make partner in her law firm if she nails this case against Darkon Steele, the CEO of the biggest pharmaceutical company in the world. Isn't she in for the surprise of her life when she sees who the attorney for Mr. Steele is?Mark Richards is one hot, sexy attorney. He's also one of the owners of Carpe Noctem, the fetish club where he meets Katy. She's on a case, he's bartending. Things become extremely hot when he brings her into the wine cellar and then hotter still when they realize they are opposing counsel and can't act on their attraction. Well, that is unless someone steps down from the case. He can't - his law firm depends on Darkon Steele and the cases he throws their way. It's the only way they can stay afloat in this economy. But, when Katy's life starts being threatened and the case she is building against his client starts looking like a good one, he reconsiders. He realizes that he's falling hard for her in and out of the board/bedroom and nothing is going to stand in his way of getting and keeping her. Not Darkon Steele, not her ex-husband and not his partners. After 10 years, he's found the right one!Legal Heat was extremely well written. It was fast and erotic all at the same time. There was no down time and the villains in the story will have you opening your eyes wide and saying "are you kidding me?" as it all unfolds. I was really impressed with Sarah Castille's writing style and the way the book flowed from character to character, scene to scene - seamlessly and without fault. I cannot wait for Book 2 in the Legal Heat series. I am so hoping that it's going to be Tony's story. What a hot, mysterious cop he is and I can't wait to get my hands on him.Review copy provided for an honest review.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. I Loved This Book! By Romancing the Book Reviewed by RobinBook provided by the Book Sparks PR for reviewReview originally posted at Romancing the BookThis was one of those stories that I wasn’t sure at first whether I would enjoy it or not. Sometimes to me the whole lawyer/legal aspect can be a bit boring. But Ms. Castille proved me to be wrong. I enjoyed the way she took the time to research all the legalities of the system and also the way lawyers prepare and research their cases then taking all into account making it real but also very smooth and enjoyable reading. There is plenty of intrigue, suspense, threats (the death kind), murder, drugs, sex, hot sex and still more HOT sex for everyone. Ms. Castille added just the right amount of elements to keep the reader’s attention all the way through the story.Mark and Katy sent sparks flying off the pages right from the start. Mark a very hot and extremely sexy lawyer found out he would be up against the very curvaceous and sexy Katy in the courtroom as they were on the same case. Wanting Katy the minute she stepped in the door of Carpe Noctem (a fetish) club he co-owned he knew that being alone for the past ten years was worth it. Katy felt the heat with Mark right from the start. A divorced mother of two with a creepy ex-husband who flaunts his affairs felt that this just might be the turnaround she needs to help move onto the future. Katy finds death and threats at every turn as she investigates Darkon Steele and his pharmaceutical company who Mark is the lawyer for. Talk about a difficult start to a new relationship. There is at times some amount of tension as they try to safely and without conflict leave the legal part behind as they explore their attraction to each other. Upon the exploration it is defiantly hot, steamy and very sexy in a sensuous way.I loved this fast paced, attention grabbing, tastefully erotic story. There was a positive flow of energy in the scenes and characters as they changed within the story. It was very well written and a recommendation to readers of all genres. I look forward to the next in Ms. Castille’s series.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. This book had it all!!! 4.5 STARS By Jennifer Schaber 4.5 STARSI LOVED KATY AND MARK!!!I cannot believe how much I enjoyed this book. There is a lot going on with a lot of characters. So much so that you wouldn't think that you could follow them all, but I didn't want to put the book down. The main characters are 2 opposing lawyers with an attraction. The story of their romance has more twists and turns than you could imagine. While their romance is the focal point of the book, the secondary characters' stories are just as intense. The twists the stories take will keep you riveted and keep you guessing. The plaintiff and defendant each have their own story as well as a cop, a PI and an ex-husband. You will want to beat the ex-husband, but it's clear why he's ex and most of his interactions are quite humorous because it's fiction. There's a lot of action, great use of the English language, good writing and a story that pulls you in and doesn't let go. The romance develops well, the suspense is in places where you least expect it and you just never know what's going to happen next. If you like a well written book that has romance, intrigue, suspense, murder, justice, ending for all plot lines and characters that are strong and worthy of your time, read this book!

33 of 33 people found the following review helpful. Are we all reviewing the same book?! By A. Ogoke Pardon me... Which book are you folks reviewing here??I am asking because I have purchased and have read "Swift Programming: Master's Handbook Edition today (July 25, 2015). The book has only 5 chapters and is far from complete. It does promise more (see "Phase Two Content") -- at some unspecified date and time.***What _I liked_ about it***[1] Use of pseudo-code to outline the design logic that is eventually encoded with Swift programming language.[2] Link to swiftstub (http://www.swiftstub.com) -- a web-based application that simulates Swift "playground" and allows readers like me to try Swift in *any* web browser on almost any platform![3] The effort to distinguish between the 'effect' and the 'output' of a function in Chapter 5.***What _I did not like_ about it***[1] In chapter 4 we are encouraged to "define two data definitions" called '1stCoffee' and '2ndCoffee'...". This an inexcusable error. Few, if any, modern, higher level, programming languages allow constant or variable names to begin with digits.[2] The use of capitals in pseudo-code is jarring. With few exceptions, modern programming languages use capital letters in very specific contexts.[3] In pseudo code in Chapter 3, it is not clear why "City" precedes "LosAngeles" in"City LosAngeles = new City"This causes some confusion when subsequently the reader sees"LosAngeles-LATITUDE = 34.0500;" -- The beginner would wonder happened to the 'City" prefix?[4] You can do a better job of explaining the difference between Swift's use of 'let' and 'var' keywords. At the beginning of Swift-03, there is an assertion that "If you declare either an atomic data or a Struct as a 'let' definition, you cannot change the data within it." This assertion is misleading because the value of an attribute declared with the 'var' keyword within a Struct declared as a 'let' can be changed.[5] It is probably not required but it would helpful to a beginner if pseudo-code reflects the structure and style of Swift code. To this end, Swift's function signature *should not be*...(OutputType) functionName(InputType InputName){}Instead, it is more like...AccessType funct functionName(InputName: InputType)-->ReturnDataType{}Explanation:%% 'AccessType' determine function scope and visibility -- e.g., as 'Public', 'Internal', or 'Private'%% the 'funct' keyword is required%% the functionName is required%% 'InputName: InputType' identify function parameters%% the parentheses "()" that follow functionName enclose function parameters.%% '--> ReturnDataType' defines the type of return -- if any.%% curly brackets "{}" contain code for the function's action and, where necessary, the 'return' statement. The returned data must match the ReturnDataType.%% there can be zero or more function parameters.%% multiple function parameters are seperated by commas ","%% function parameters can include a 'Variadic' parameter. If present, the 'varaidic' parameter must be the last function parameter declared.%% a Swift function can have zero or multiple ReturnDataTypes.%% function parameters and ReturnDataTypes can be Swift "primitive" types (e.g., Int, Float/Double, String, Bool) or complex Swift types (e.g., objects derived from Structs or Classes, tuples, enumerations, arrays, dictionaries, etc.)***Suggestions for improvement***[1] The author(s) need to let prospective buyers know, upfront, that the book is a work-in-progress. I was not happy to learn that I hadpurchased an unfinished book. The fact that I "really" like what I see in the book thus far has not changed the sense of "betrayal" that I felt.[2] If e-book formats allow it, consider using different font styles for pseudo-code and actual Swift code. It really helps comprehension and clarity.[3] Find a way to write pseudo-code without so many capital letters.[4] Consider renaming Swift workshops to show which chapter they belong in. "Swift Workshop #1" would become "Swift Workshop #2.1"[5] Actually run *all* code in the book through Swift to identify and explain any errors that [diligent] readers who attempt to replicate sample code within the book might encounter.I rate the book three (3) stars for the reasons I mention above. I will be happy to revise this rating when I see the rest of the book OR if somebody will explain to me why an incomplete book is receiving 5 star reviews. Thank you.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Well Done! By K.R.T. Good beginners guide. Not for advanced users but I'm new to it so it really got me up and running with all the necessary basics. Had a bunch of great tips and practical advice throughout. A little on the short side but otherwise and excellent resource!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. some words are not easily understood by a non-techie person like me By Ysobelle Jude The topic of this book, Swift Programming, is technical, some words are not easily understood by a non-techie person like me. But, overall it has been a very informative read. One will also believe that this is a credible book since it was created and crafted by some of the best minds--those who studied in some of the world's top universities. This is something essential. I find this book a feasible one to study, with some guidance from my mentors, I am sure I will be able to study and learn so much from this book.

Excerpt. © Reprinted by permission. All rights reserved. Rafael Castelli was entirely too familiar with ghosts. He'd seen them everywhere in those first dark months following the accident. Every woman with anything resembling strawberry blond hair was his Lily in a certain light. A hint of her scent in a passing crowd, the suggestion of her delicate features across a busy train car, a low, faintly hoarse bit of feminine laughter in a packed restaurant. All Lily for a heart-stopping instant of wild recognition—and hope.Always that delirious scrap of hope, as desperate as it was doomed. He'd once chased a woman halfway across London before he'd realized that she wasn't Lily. That she couldn't have been Lily. His stepsister had died in that terrible crash on the rugged California coast north of San Francisco. And despite the fact that her body had never been recovered from the treacherous waters below that rocky cliff, despite the fact no one had ever found any proof that she'd died in the fire that had burned her car to ash, nothing, not tricks of light or three a.m. conspiracy theories or his own despairing heart playing games with him, could change that.It had been five years. Lily was gone.He understood, finally, that they weren't ghosts at all, these flashing glimpses of what might have been. They were his bitter, consuming regret mapped onto a hundred strangers, and none of them the woman he wanted. But this ghost was different. And the last, Rafael vowed as a deep, black fury surged through him. Five years was long enough to grieve what had never been, thanks to his own selfishness. More than long enough. It was time to move on.It was a December late afternoon in Charlottesville, Virginia, a picturesque American university town nestled at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains, some three hours by car from Washington, DC, and a world away from his native Italy. Rafael had made the trip from the nation's capital by helicopter today, the better to tour the region's vineyards from above with an eye toward expanding the global reach of the Castelli family's historic wine business. As acting CEO—because his ailing father's immense pride did not allow for an official transfer of leadership to Rafael or his younger brother, Luca, while the old man still drew breath, which was as unsurprising as it was irritating—Rafael had taken many such trips in the past few years. Portugal. South Africa. Chile. This latest trip to the central Virginia wine region was more of the same. The late-afternoon stop in selfconsciously charming Charlottesville en route to a later dinner event with one of the local wine associations was the typical excursion to help promote the charm of the area. Rafael had expected it and in truth, the bustle of the holiday season made the entire town feel like an interactive Christmas card.It was not unpleasant, he'd thought as they'd walked the outdoor mall, though he had never much cared for the holiday frenzy. Carolers were strewn along the pedestrianized street, their voices mingling and competing in the crisp air. Shoppers milled in and out of the brightly lit shops beneath festive lights and around clusters of street vendors hawking their wares, and Rafael's small group had ducked inside one of the cafés for strong local coffee to ward off the cold. And to battle any traces of jet lag, no doubt. Rafael had made his order a triple shot of espresso, per piacere. And then he'd seen her.The woman moved like poetry against the falling dark, the particular rhythm of her stride chiming deep inside him even though he knew better, drowning out the barrage of Christmas carols assaulting him from the café's overloud sound system. It had been five years, but Rafael knew that walk in an instant. He knew the swing of those hips and the stretch of those legs. That irresistible roll as she strode past the window where he stood. He caught the flash of her cheek, nothing more. But that walk. This must stop, he ordered himself coldly. Lily is dead."Are you all right, Mr. Castelli?" the local wine association host asked worriedly from beside him. His brother, Luca, here in his capacity as global marketing director of Castelli Wine, was too busy on his mobile to do more then frown distractedly in Rafael's direction."I will be fine," Rafael gritted out. "Excuse me for a moment."And he stalked out of the café, pushing his way through the milling holiday crowds and into the waning light. For a moment, he thought he'd lost her, and he knew that was the best possible outcome of this tired old madness—but then he saw her again, moving on the far side of the mall with that gait that recalled Lily like a shout across the busy street, and that dark current of pure rage sparked in him all over again. It wasn't Lily. It was never Lily. And yet every time this happened, Rafael raced after the poor stranger who looked a bit too much like his memories and made a goddamned fool of himself."This will be the last time you indulge this weakness," he muttered to himself, and then he set out after this latest incarnation of the woman he knew—he knew—he'd never see again. One more time to stamp out the last spark of that nasty little flame of hope that still refused to die. One last time to prove what he already knew: Lily was gone, she was never coming back, and he would never, ever see her equal. And maybe, just maybe, he wouldn't look for her in all these strangers' faces if he hadn't been such a bastard to her in the first place.Rafael doubted he'd ever shift the guilt of all he'd done from its usual place, crouched fat and greasy and bristling with malice in the spot where his soul should have been. But tonight, in this charming little town in a part of America he'd never visited before and likely wouldn't visit again, he would lay what he could of his wretched history to rest.He didn't expect peace. He didn't deserve it. But he was done chasing phantoms. She will be a stranger. She is always a stranger. And after you confirm that for the hundredth time, you will never doubt it again. This had to end. He had to end it.He couldn't see the face of his quarry, only the fine line of her back and the hint of her willowy form as she walked briskly away from him. She was wrapped up against the December chill in a long black coat and a bright scarf, with only hints of honey-colored hair peeking out from beneath the black knit hat she wore tugged low over her ears. Her hands were thrust deep into her pockets. She was weaving her way through the crowds in a manner that suggested she knew exactly where she was going, and she didn't look back. And the memories rolled through him like waves against the rocks, crashing over him one after the next. Lily, the only woman who'd ever captured him so completely. Lily, whom he'd lost. Lily, his forbidden lover, his secret and dirty passion, whom he'd hidden from the world and then had to mourn as if she was no more than the daughter of his father's fourth wife. As if she had been nothing more to him than that. He'd hated himself for so long now it was indistinguishable from that grief that never quite left him. That grief that had transformed him—turning him from a too-rich dilettante who'd been content to throw his family money around rather than make any himself into one of the most formidable businessmen in Italy. That, too, had taken years. It had been another form of penance."Inside you is the seed of a far better man," Lily had said to him the last time he'd seen her, after he'd made her come and then made her cry: his specialty. "I know it. But if you keep going the way you're going, you'll kill it off before it ever has a chance to grow.""You mistake me for someone who wants to grow," Rafael had replied with all that confidently lazy indifference he'd had no idea he'd spend the rest of his life hating himself for feeling. "I don't need to be a bloody garden, Lily. I'm happy as I am."It was one of the last conversations they'd ever had.His heart was a hard, almost painful drum inside his chest. His breath came like clouds against the deepening night. He tracked her past this novelty shop, that restaurant and a band of singers in period dress singing "Ave Maria" while he drank in that walk as if it was a prayer. As if this time around, after all these years of regret, he could appreciate that it was the last time he'd ever see it.He followed her as she left the clamor and bright mess of the downtown mall and started down one of the side streets, marveling at her hauntingly familiar silhouette, that figure he could have drawn in his sleep, the sheer perfection of this woman who was not Lily yet looked exactly the way he remembered her.His Lily, stalking off down a foggy San Francisco street, claiming she wanted nothing more than to get the hell away from him and their twisted relationship at last. Back then he'd laughed, so arrogantly certain she'd come back to him the way she always did. The way she'd been coming back to him since the day they'd first crossed that line when she'd been nineteen.Another tryst in a hall closet, perhaps, with his hand wrapped over her mouth to muffle her cries as they drove each other crazy only feet away from their families. Another stolen night in her bedroom in her mother's stately home in the moneyed hills of Sausalito, tearing each other apart in the stillness of the northern California night, hands in fists and teeth clenched against the pillows. A hotel room here, a stolen moment in the gardening shed of a summer rental there—all so tawdry, now, in his recollection. All so stupid and wasteful. But then, he'd been so certain there would always be another. His mobile vibrated in his pocket; the assistant he'd left back in that café, he assumed, wondering where in the hell Rafael was. Or perhaps even his brother, Luca, irritated by Rafael's absence when there was work to be done. Either way, he ignored it.The afternoon was falling fast into evening and Rafael was a different man now than the one he'd been five years ago. He had responsibilities these days; he welcomed them. He couldn't simply chase women across cities the way he had in his youth, though back then, of course, he'd done such things for entirely different reasons. Gluttony, not guilt. He was no longer the inveterate womanizer he'd been then, content to enjoy his questionable relationship with his stepsister in private and all his other and varied conquests in the bright glare of the public eye, never caring if that hurt her.Never caring about much of anything at all, if he was honest, except keeping himself safe from the claws of emotional entanglements. This is how it must be, cara, he'd told her with all the offhanded certainty of the shallow, pleasure-seeking fool he'd been then. No one can ever know what happens between us. They wouldn't understand. He was no longer the selfish and twisted young man who had taken a certain delight in carrying on his shameful affair right under the noses of their blended families, simply because he could. Because Lily could not resist him.The truth was, he'd been equally unable to resist her. A terrible reality he'd only understood when it was much too late. He'd changed since those days, ghosts or no ghosts. But he was still Rafael Castelli. And this was the very last time he intended to wallow in his guilt. It was time to grow up, accept that he could not change his past no matter how he wished it could be otherwise and stop imagining he saw a dead woman around every corner. There was no bringing Lily back. There was only living with himself, with what he'd done, as best he could. The woman slowed that mesmerizing walk of hers, pulling her hand from her pocket and pointing a key fob at a nearby car. The alarm beeped as she stepped into the street and swung around to open the driver's door, and the light from the street lamp just blooming to life above her caught her full in the face—And hit him like a battle-ax to the gut. There was a buzzing in his head, a dizzy, lurching thing that almost cut him in half. She jerked against the car door and left it shut, and he had the dim realization that he'd barked out some kind of order. Or had it been her name? She froze where she stood, staring back at him across the hood of a stout little American wagon that could fit six or seven Italian cars, the frigid sidewalk, the whole of the night. But there was no mistaking who she was. Lily.It could be no other. Not with those fine, sculpted cheekbones that perfectly framed her wide, carnal mouth that he'd tasted a thousand times. Not with that perfect heart-shaped face that belonged in a painting in the Uffizi. Her eyes were still that dreamy, sleepy blue that reminded him of California winters. Her hair poked out from beneath her knit hat to tumble down over her shoulders, still that rich summer honey, golds and auburns combined. Her brows were the same shade, arched slightly to give her the look of a seventeenth-century Madonna, and she looked as if she had not aged a single day in five years. He thought his heart might have dropped from his chest. He felt it plummet to the ground. He took a breath, then another, expecting her features to rearrange themselves into a stranger's as he stared. Expecting to jolt awake somewhere to find this all a dream. Expecting something—He dragged in a deep breath, then let it out. Another. And it was still her."Lily," he whispered. Then he was moving. He closed the distance between them in a moment, and there was nothing but noise inside him. A great din, pounding at him and tearing at him and ripping him apart, and his hands shook when he reached to take her by the shoulders. She made a startled sort of sound, but he was drinking her in, looking for signs. For evidence, like that faint freckle to the left of her mouth, to mark that dent in her cheek when she smiled. And his hands knew the shape of her shoulders even beneath that thick coat, slender yet strong. He had the sense of that easy fit he remembered, his body and hers, as if they'd been fashioned as puzzle pieces that interlocked. He recognized the way her head fell back, the way her lips parted."What are you doing?"He saw her lips form the words, read them from her mouth, but he couldn't make sense of them. He only knew that was her voice—her voice—the voice he'd never expected to hear again, faintly husky and indisputably Lily's. It was like a sledgehammer through him, inside him. Wrecking him and remaking him at once. And the scent of her, that indefinable fragrance that was some combination of hand lotion and moisturizer, shampoo and perfume, all rolled together and mixed with the simple truth of her beneath it all. All Lily. His Lily. She was alive. Or this was a psychotic break. And Rafael didn't give much of a damn which. He simply hauled her toward him and took her mouth with his.

The H was older and should have known better. He was the one sleeping around and flaunting the women in her presence. How could he sleep with them when he was obsessed with the h and liked the idea that she was just his? He asks her if she slept with other men in the past 5 yrs but the h has no curiosity about him.The chemistry between them is well described but somehow the whole story had an incompleteness about it.I feel that the h had taken enough from him and did right by walking away. She is more of a victim here.

A difficult journey By LynnL Lilly Holloway walked away from her life five years ago after a car accident gave her the opportunity to disappear and start anew. Lily had a relationship with her stepbrother, Rafael Castelli, which was explosive, tempestuous, and heartbreaking. When Rafael finds her again after a chance meeting, she pretends to have amnesia rather than admit what she has done. Rafael reformed his reprobate life of wild behavior and women after losing her, and now that he has found Lily again, he does not plan on letting her go especially discovering they have a son. This story is high drama throughout until the end. Rafael and Lily have very volatile feelings including an intense physical and emotional attraction; however, they both have personal baggage that inhibits them from having a normal relationship. His mother had mental health issues and his father numerous wives. Lily’s mother had many problems as well, and she does not want to go down that torturous path. Lily and Rafael spend most of their time battling their feelings for one another as well as what to do about their son. Lily and Rafael can only have a relationship if they can learn to forgive each other for the damage both have caused, and realize that love can heal instead of harm.

It is a moving, dramatic tale of young love gone very wrong and is written in such an empathetic manner it almost moves the reader to tears at many points in the story. When sixteen year old Lily moves to live with the Castelli family following her mother's marriage to the Head of the household she suddenly finds herself with two step brothers, one her own age and one slightly older. These worldly young men find her a feisty argumentative, independent young lady but the attraction between her and Rafael grows so strong they give in to temptation but he is determined to keep their relationship a secret and continues to have affairs with other women. It is now five years since the car she was driving crashed, fell down a mountainside and burst into flames. Everyone was devastated by her death, though her body was never recovered.Ever since then, Rafael has been seeing Lily in his travels - or women who initially look like her but aren't. When he does actually find her she denies knowing him and then he discovers she has had their son, keeping the child's existence and her own secret from him and his family. He is determined to have them both back in his life and whisks her off to Venice ......As the secrets from their shared past are revealed this story is an emotional roller coaster ride, with so much sorrow, desperation, turmoil and fear the reader is unsure if their HEA has any chance of being achieved. This is a page turner, a riveting, complex, superbly crafted romance which takes the reader through the whole gamut of emotions and one I have no hesitation in highly recommending to anyone who enjoys reading emotional journeys to a second chance HEA romanceThanks to the Author, publisher and NetGalley, too, for letting me read an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Dyslexia is a neurological brain difference affecting as many as one in five people. As dyslexia is a specific language-based condition that can hinder a person’s ability to read, write, spell, and even speak, society cannot afford to neglect the nearly 20 percent of the school population exhibiting mild to profound characteristics of dyslexia. Some professionals posit that the majority of high school dropouts are dyslexic learners who simply give up. With the future of so many students on the line, educators must not allow these struggling learners to slip through the cracks and fall behind their peers.

To address these issues, Dr. Mamie B. Crockett and Dr. Walter L. Crockett created this guide for educators to help dyslexic learners. By describing the characteristics of dyslexia and related behavior disabilities, discussing various learning behaviors, and suggesting strategies for learning that match each behavior, the authors give educators a practical and implementable plan for teaching dyslexic learners.

With a glossary of terms and special resources including websites, online resources, and cutting-edge technology, this book is an invaluable tool for educators and parents in their quest to support and accommodate struggling readers and dyslexic learners.

Expand your knowledge of the Raspberry Pi By tonygo The first four chapters of the book cover the selection of a suitable Raspberry Pi, its essential accessories, setting it up and the tools you will need to build the projects. This is ideal if you have never used one before nor constructed a computing hardware project. The first project is comparatively gentle involving a tilt switch in a bottle and some interesting screen graphics. From then on the projects get increasingly more involved. This book covers an enormous range of topics including: tilt switches, simple LEDS, Neopixel RBG LEDs, a matrix of switches, analogue to digital conversion, reading temperatures with a TMP36 and a DS18B20, using a MCP3008 A-to-D SPI chip, logging data to the Cloud, dynamic web pages, using webcams and the Pi camera module, computer vision with motion detection, image recognition, colour detection, triggering sounds from visual sensing, interfacing with LEGO MINDSTORMS, IR transmitters, RISC OS coding including GPIO, BBC BASIC and building a transistor tester .Several programming languages are used in the example programs: Python, C, BBC BASIC and assembler.I’ve been using Arduinos for about four years and the Raspberry Pi since it first appeared three and a half years ago. I’ve got quite a library of Raspberry Pi texts and have designed and built several projects of my own. So far I’ve not used the SPI bus nor connected WS2812b LED devices to a Pi. I’ve only programmed the Pi using Python and accessed the GPIO pins with Ben Croston’s GPIO library. To check out this new book I thought I would follow a couple of the projects to fill in some of the gaps in my knowledge. I started with a Raspberry Pi 2 B, a new SD card, with the latest version of Wheezy, a breadboard connected to the GPIO port with an Adafruit T-Cobbler Plus, this labels the pins to avoid confusion, and an open mind.My first project was to interface a MCP3008 Analog-to-Digital microchip. This is a SPI device and needs the Serial Peripheral Interface bus enabled. Recent upgrades to Raspian have changed the method of activation from editing the raspi-blacklist.config file (which no longer exists) to running sudo raspi-config and making changes in the advanced settings. Only the older method is explained in the book on pages 192-193. (The OS keeps changing/improving which must be a real problem for authors and publishers.) Building the breadboard circuit was simple, with the MCP3008 chip pin and GPIO header pin diagrams supporting the Fritzing circuit diagram. Installing the WiringPi library was easy following the sidebar on page 172. The programs for this chapter are written in C, rather than the more usual Python, and can be simply downloaded from the Dummies website to aid both speed and accuracy. If you have never compiled and run a C program before on a Raspberry Pi, and I had not, the instructions work perfectly. (There is also a fuller explanation on pages 64-67.) This was an interesting project and I have now soldered up an analogue-to-digital add-on board for future use and will try C again the next time I use it.The second project I tried was the WS2812b 24 LED ring version of Stomp2 in chapter 6. I’ve used these Neopixels successfully with Arduinos but never before on a Pi. Building the circuit board was straight forward. I used a slightly larger piece of stripboard with connections via sockets rather than pins so that I could join it to the Pi with male to male wires and a T-Cobbler Plus on a breadboard. (GPIO 18 is on P1-12, GPIO 2 is on P1-3 – SDA and GPIO 3 is on P1-5 –SCL; as shown on page 73.) I used an adjustable breadboard power supply for the 5 volt input. This second project needed several software downloads. The Stomp2.py was easily acquired from the book’s webpage. Reading through the program I found that it needed the wiringpi2 library. I found how to install it on page 85, as part of the preparation for the Sauce Bottle Game. The instructions were easy to follow and worked perfectly. At this point I hit a couple of problems. Having downloaded the .egg file with the wget command I tried to install it with easy_install. This was not on the Wheezy distribution and I could not find it in the book index. After looking on the net I found that it is included in python-setuptools. You need to install it with “sudo apt-get install python-setuptools” and try again. I found that I could not get the library to install correctly – it kept producing errors.I then remembered from the official RaspberryPi Forum that there were initially problems with running these devices on the new Pi 2 B when it was introduced. Luckily I own other earlier Pis and installed the software successfully on a Pi B Rev 2.0 512MB. I then tested it on a Pi 1 A+ and it worked perfectly. If you try this project I suggest you use one of the older versions on the Pi and you will not have any problems.I suspect that this difficulty was caused by the length of time between authors finishing their book and publication – often more than six months. The authors would probably not have had access to the latest Pi 2 B while developing the projects and could only test them on the earlier boards. This is a major problem for book writers in this subject area; look how much the Wheezy GUI has been changed in the last six months. Both projects worked perfectly and I have added to my knowledge. What more can you expect? There is enough in this book to keep me busy and contented through the long winter months and I recommend it to those wishing to extend their knowledge of Raspberry Pi control projects. Users who already have some practical experience in Pi projects will probably get the most from this excellent book.

I seriously love Sabrina Paige’s stepbrother romances. Her books never revolve around the fact that the main characters are connected by marriage. Yes, it’s there, it’s a part of the story, but there’s always other things going on that the characters have to deal with. And that’s what makes her stand out amongst all the mediocre stepbrother romance books I’ve read (and I’ve read a lot). I’m also a sucker for rock star/musician romances and I’m a sucker for military romances. So this book, combining both of those and the stepbrother theme, was the trifecta of the perfect book.I’m not always a fan of the past to present format in books, but it totally worked here. Chapters would start off with a point in the past and then transition into the modern day story. I loved Addy and Hendrix. I loved their interactions, their chemistry, their personalities…they just made this book perfect.Addy is country music’s IT GIRL. She’s the girl next door, America’s sweet heart…think Taylor Swift’s public image. But after Addy got caught up in some compromising photos (taken out of context), her overly controlling momager and step-father security specialist team up with Addy’s record label to try and control her and the nonexistent “situation”. That’s where Hendrix comes in. Fresh out of the Marines, he’s bored silly at a desk job. So his father decides he’d make the best bodyguard for Addy. Little do they know that there’s a past attraction between Addy and Hendrix and once they come together…chemistry up the wazoo!I loved the time they spent together. There was a really sweet scene when Addy babysits for her nephew and the three of them spend the day together.I think the scenes from the past helped establish the connection for the current day. Part of what I loved was that neither Addy or Hendrix were able to really let the other one go during their separation. One of my favorite “Awwwwwwwe” scenes was when they admitted to constantly thinking about the other.I feel like my review doesn’t do this awesome book justice. Sabrina Paige is definitely one of my all time favorite authors and I can’t wait for her next book!

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. You simply must read this! By VClifton I received an ARC copy of Cannon in exchange for an honest review.Sabrina Paige does it again! I absolutely adored her other books, especially Prick and Tool, and Cannon is one I plan to read again! We have Hendrix, the sexy, ex-Marine stepbrother, who has emotional issues due to his deployment in Afghanistan and an a-hole father. We also have Addy, who is an overworked country/pop singer who is basically oppressed and controlled by her manager (aka Mom) and her label. This book was so much more emotional than Prick and Tool. There are things that happen, or have happened in the past, that have deeply affected Hendrix and Addy. Their love is a sweet love, with angst and sadness, but also hope and promise. I may be an oddball, but I love insta-hate books where one or both parties starts off mad or resentful of the other, but eventually they find love. I enjoyed their little squabbles and the tension between Hendrix and Addy. Addy is stubborn, and he is equally stubborn, yet he cares for her and makes sure she eats, makes sure she's safe, despite her anger.Hendrix is alpha, but not over-the-top alpha. Honestly, he's a perfect blend of strength and sentiment. Addy is stronger than she appears to be, and eventually she has had enough of her manager and label and comes into her own. I won't post spoilers so you will have to wait and see what happens for yourself. :)There were parts of this book where I cried-- sometimes tears of sadness and empathy, and sometimes tears of happiness for the sweetness of it all. This was an emotional book, but it wasn't overly sappy. There is such a thing as too sappy, too lovey-dovey, and too happy. Happily, Cannon is a wonderful blend of anger, dislike, regret, self-sacrifice, hope, love, inspiration and ultimately, joy. Sabrina definitely knows what she's doing! The last few chapters- aaaaahhh! I grinned like an idiot. I was so darned happy with how things turned out! This is seriously a must-read, and with the Kindle version being just .99 or free on KU, what's to lose? Absolutely nothing! You simply must read this.

This is not just another step-brother romance, it's much more.Addison "Addy" Stone is a county singer, who was discovered on a reality show. Her mother is her manager and her step-father provides her security. When Addy's infringes on her 'morality clause', her record label and parents agree on hiring Addy a new bodyguard/babysitter, her step-brother Hendrix. It was only five years earlier Hendrix left Addy for the Marines without a simple good-bye.Hendrix Cannon Cole has been back from Afghanistan for the last six months, he tried working a desk job and failed. Now he's Addy's bodyguard. The problem is he had run away from Addy five years ago joining the marines because of he was in love with her and now that he has returned nothing has changed.Addy struggles with her feeling for Hendrix because he had hurt her before he left to the Marines. Hendrix struggles with his feelings for Addy because of her 'morality clause' and he doesn't want to destroy her career. Hendrix is also suffering from an incident that occurred while he was in the marines and has become reckless with his own safety. Addy is locked up in a contact that doesn't make her happy, she sings what she's given however she's a song writer at heart.Addy and Hendrix are both dysfunctional in their own ways. Fate has brought them back together to allow them to heal old wounds and find happiness. It's not easy, they have to combat their parents, the record label and public perception. In the end it's worth it.There are several story lines and each represent the struggles Addy and Hendrix had to endure.Step-sibling connectionParents who operate out of self-interestSelf-destructive behavior due to guiltStruggle for independenceThe story is well told moving from the past to the present, providing details of how they struggled to do the right thing and what they gave up in the process. It's only when they finally admit their true feelings that they are able to shed the unfavorable aspects of their lives and move forward. Although at first Hendrix appears to be a over-controlling, prick, we soon discover he's created a facade to cover up his true feelings. Don't get me wrong, he's Alpha all the way, but there is more hidden behind his gray-blue, almost black stormy eyes. I love that Addy grew some balls and followed her feelings. This is one of my favorite stories so far this year. I love the struggle to move past all the obstacles and find freedom. 5+++ Stars!!
