About the Author Richard Adelman is a lifelong resident of Philadelphia. He taught English, computer applications, and filmmaking in public high schools there for thirty-seven years. Besides teaching, Richard worked for many years in the Philadelphia area as a wedding photographer and in Atlantic City as a bartender and restaurant manager. He is previously unpublished. Retired now, he has been spending his literary efforts trying to learn enough French to read the classics. He has two grandchildren.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Buy this book. Now! By Ellen E. Kaye You don't have to be a teacher to love this first novel by a retired high school teacher. Sure it draws on Adelman's bizarre experiences in the Philadelphia public school system but the quirky humor and terrific writing are definitely for everyone. At least everyone with a sense of humor and a taste for the outrageous. Bit of a slow beginning, and maybe that's purposeful; because Teacher Tales builds up to a wild crescendo as the bizarre-- and laugh out loud -- quotients increase. Let's hope we haven't heard the last from Adelman. He's a sly writer, with a laid back style and an ability to create unforgettable characters in surreal situations.

Great Comical and Satirical Teacher's Romp By Craig Sonnenfeld I couldn't wait to get home to continue reading this book during the week that I read it. This is a fictional story about the adventures of a teacher going through the career motions of dealing with kids everyday so that someday he will be able to retire. A fairly embittered and depressed main character, Kessler barely makes it through the day at school every day so he can get home to start drinking. The author, Mr. Adelman has a great satiric sense of humor and an absurdist bent which seems to be influenced by Kafka (in fact 'Metamorphosis' is one of the books that Kessler teaches to his less than enthusiastic students). The climactic chapter in the book (no spoilers here) had me laughing out loud. A fine, entertaining and humorous piece of fiction.

Biscontini I just ordered three additional copies of this book from Amazon to give to friends. All of them happen to be educators, and, while there are some "inside teaching" moments that provide added richness to the story, this novel is broad enough to appeal to anybody who has ever been to school. This is an inventive and perceptive chronicle of an isolationist/minimalist teacher who, maybe, stumbles into what he sees as a sort of redemption. Some knock-down funny stuff that had me laughing out loud, and the darkly comic moments when you are not quite sure for whom to cheer are clever, plentiful and rewarding. A fast and funny read with an unforgettable cast of teachers, school administrators, high school kids, and one especially memorable parent.

I really like this book because my family is learning to speak Spanish and it is a great and simple way for the to learn it. Plus we love the cute story! For someone who grew up in Mexico, I think this book uses good vocabulary at a great level :)

If you are interested in how to create more enriching, playful, movement experiences with young children, this book will show you how! The book is a must for all those interested in promoting physical development in the early years, it is practical but underpinned by helpful theory including the links between physicality and later academic success. The authors are able to draw on their vast collective experiences and provide an evidence-based resource that I would highly recommend to all early childhood educators; including those in early primary schools.

This book is going to be very influential and will be a seminal text for all practitioners and students wanting to hone their knowledge about how children think and learn best. The authors are Iram Siraj, an academic of giant stature in the field of Early Childhood having been involved over the years in many influential research projects, and Carol Archer whose work as a hands- on practitioner, advisory teacher and academic brings the ‘street cred’ to this book that practitioners relate to.  The importance of physical play and movement has been grossly underemphasised in the training of early years practitioners but this resource will undoubtedly redress the balance and lend academic rigour and authority to the place of movement in the curriculum for young children and what we offer babies and toddlers. It will give the reader an extremely helpful overview as it stresses the importance of movement play as the common denominator of all learning. Always backed up by convincing research evidence the first chapter explains in depth what is going on in the brain and the body when children move.

Vigorous movement is essential for health.  Being overweight or obese in childhood is a predictor of later health troubles in adult life and yet in the case studies undertaken for this book, adults in pre-school settings were shown to be reluctant to plan for, engage or intervene in movement and physical play with the children. They were unaware of the Department of Health guidelines that children should have 180 minutes (3 hours ) of physical activity in the day and that all under 5s should minimize the amount of time spent being sedentary (being restrained in car seats or buggies or in sitting) for extended periods . Play is synonymous with movement and a play-based environment offers children what they need to grow and learn best. There is an emphasis on the importance of the outdoors throughout the book.

But knowing the theory is one thing, implementing it is quite another. The book is practical too. It is excellent in guiding practitioners and especially managers and leaders on how to implement a curriculum based on movement for children from birth to 6 years of age. These practical guidelines are clearly illustrated with helpful photos. Siraj and Archer have also devised a Movement Play Scale (MPS) as a way of assessing the quality of movement –play. The descriptors help to place the setting as inadequate through to excellent.

The last chapter is incredibly full and concentrated! It contains step-by-step support in devising a physical development policy where all concerned are given a voice including parents.

The references run to many pages and cover literature from national and international research, and experts in the field of early childhood, education, pedagogy, health, neuroscience, physiology, biological science, psychology, sociology and medicine.

I found this book extremely helpful and will use it in my work with teachers and practitioners and recommend it to all involved in the care and education of young children and their teachers and carers.

About the Author

Carol Archer has taught in early childhood education and primary schools for over two decades and is currently an advisory teacher for the Integrated Early Years Service in the London Borough of Camden. She also works as a movement-play practitioner/consultant in other education authorities. She finished her Masters Degree at the Institute of Education, University of London on Early Years Education in 2011; and recently published a paper with Iram Siraj on ‘Measuring the quality of movement-play in Early Childhood Education settings’ in the European Early Childhood Education Research Journal.  She is passionate about promoting physical development through movement-play for all young children from birth to 6 years of age in this under researched, under theorised & under practiced area of learning.

Iram Siraj is Professor of ECE at the Institute of Education, University of London and the University of Wollongong in Australia. Iram’s recent research projects have included leading on the:  Evaluation of the Foundation Phase across Wales and she is  a principal investigator of the major DfE 17 -year study on Effective Pre-school, Primary and Secondary Education (EPPSE 3-16, 1997-2014) and of the influential Researching Effective Pedagogy in the Early Years project (REPEY). She has led on longitudinal studies/RCTs as a principal investigator in a number of countries including the UK, Australia and Ireland. She is currently specialist adviser to the House of Commons Select Committee on early education and has undertaken reviews of the Foundation Phase for the Welsh Govt. and of the workforce for the Scottish Govt. She has published widely.

It includes information about the enormous importance of physically exploratory and challenging play for early years children and presents a lot of interesting and helpful information in a way that is open and clear. I now understand how trusting partnerships between early years settings, parents, professionals and grandparents and others involved with caring for young children enable children to develop their physical skills, and how essential these skills are for their integration and future learning.I highly recommend this book, it is not only clear and well written, but also reminds the reader of the diversity of family life and how all can be part of a process of further learning and thinking together that does not judge and is genuinely inclusive.

Katie's views on shifter men is a little off but she doesn't realize this because this is all she has been taught. Katie has plans for her future and if she lets a man into her life she will never accomplish those plans in her option. The problem is when one day during her shift as a waitress she meets Jake and his friend Rafe. Rafe is funny in an older brother picking on you kind of way but Jake makes her stand up and take notice.Jake is a man who never wanted to be alpha and wouldn't be if it wasn't for the fact that he lost his older brother in an accident. To figure out what he really wants to do next he runs away and joins Rafe as street performers just trying to make enough to get by. When Jake smells Katie though he knows he has to get closer to her and his bear oh that is trying to beat his way out of Jake to get to her. Something has Katie on the spooked side and he will do anything to protect her.This is a great story about finding love and being willing to open yourself up for it. This is also a great story about friendship and loyalty. I was impressed with how even though Rafe and Jake are different shifters their friendship is in no way affected by this. Jake is there and wants to be there in the future for his friend. I thought this book was amazing I couldn't put it down once I started it. I would recommend this to anyone and everyone.

By Cathy040 I have only read a few shapeshifter paranormal romances and I have found this one to be the best one yet. Nora Eli had a great mixture of paranormal influence, romance and gave real depth to her characters. I immediately liked Katie who is a hard working waitress in Chicago that will only do life on her own terms and will not be controlled by her overbearing mother. Jake on the other hand was my favorite character. He the perfect combination of sexy looks, brute strength and sensitivity. There was just the right balance of story and hot and steamy scenes to make this a very entertaining read. I loved this book and I cannot wait to read more work by Nora Eli.

Katie, a kinfolk, does not what to be with a bear nor an alpha bear. Her mother told her at a young age what she is to become, a brook mare, to the alphas in their town so Katie ran to Chicago and became a waitress. Jake ran from home when his older brother was killed by hunters so Jake is to become the new alpha of his bear clan. Even when he meets his mate and to find out that his mate dont want someone like him, once she does she runs again.

By dreamsoup Note: Independent review, with no bias against author or maliciousness intended.This isn't a "grammar nazi says the writing sucks, write better" review. As an avid reader of erotic romance and a Kindle full of Ellora's Cave books, my bar for quality writing is already set so low that you'd trip on it walking in the door. I was really trying to dig into this story, as the priest/forbidden love taboo is one of my absolute favorite dynamics. But right from the beginning, I found myself jarred several times out of the story by cringe-worthy run-on sentences. I've read a great deal (100+) of romance novels from pro and self-published authors alike, and only a handful had writing issues serious enough to pull me out of the storyline. Only two of those made me regretfully put the book down permanently. I haven't decided yet if I'm willing to forge on. And that's a reaction you don't want - a reader weighing if they should wade through muck to reach the hidden gem within.There's both jaw-dropping run-on sentences (a large chunk of Emma's introductory viewpoint is one giant, convoluted sentence), and a strange aversion to breaking up speech into separate sentences ("Please, don't be so formal, call me Brent, everyone else does"). It makes me wonder if the author was being charged a premium per period. Every clause can't and shouldn't be glued together with commas. The last impression I want from a taboo romance is a junior high writing class second draft.I rarely, rarely post book reviews because I don't want to unduly influence other readers. So this is an entreaty to the author: 1) These are issues easily cleaned up by any decent editor. Even in the self-publishing world, paying for a good editor is key, and 2) If you are already paying an editor, they're doing you a grave injustice. If you're still relying on friends and family, it's time to upgrade. Quality in = quality out, and like any other product on Amazon, the best concept in the world is easily toppled by shoddy execution. This is one of the few books I've purchased without checking the sample first, and I'd even seriously considered purchasing the entire series at once. Lesson learned.

Emma goes to the church every day to pray and when Father Daniels tries to talk with her she abruptly leaves. Finally, during one of her daily prayers, Father Daniels gets Emma to talk to him. That one conversation starts an avalanche for them both. Secrets are revealed are new ones are set into motion.I don't typically read romance stories but the synopsis had me intrigued. Even though the book is a novella, Eve Cates does not disappoint. The story begins with a new priest joining a congregation in Rhode Island. After his first Sunday Mass, Father Daniels meets the Williams family: Brent the patriarch, his daughters Jules and Emma, and Emma's husband Gabe. As the story progress we learn why Father Daniels joined the priesthood and why Emma is so timid. From the beginning of the book, I knew Gabe was a bad man. I just didn't know how bad until the end. He is definitely a character readers will find easy to hate. I'm totally hooked on the story and am going in search of Part 2.Reviewed by Crystal M. for The Art of Romance

Great Taboo read By MAustin I really enjoyed reading this taboo story.You meet Father Braden Daniels who has transferred to Emma's church.Emma is the daughter of Brent Williams who is a huge donor to the church.Emma goes to church every day for 1 hr to escape the noise."I don't pray. I kneel, and I dream of a time when my heart was filled with hope, and the belief that magic is real. I imagine I'm anyone but me, and that I'm anywhere but here"Braden becomes intrigued by Emma, he feels a draw to her that he can't explain. Was she sent to test his faith?As the story moves forward we learn about a secret that Emma is keeping and why Gabe has chosen to join the priesthood. Braden starts to see signs from Emma that cause concern, when he tries to talk to Emma she pushes him away. Will Braden be able to help Emma?Of course this story does end in a cliffhanger, so have #2 ready to go.I am really intrigued on where this story is going, thank you for the great read Eve.

Downloading the Kindle app for my computer and taking a look now. It's well written as far as I can see and from an "old earth perspective"I find it interesting and a little sad that she has to give that warning to the home school crowd she's writing for...I don't home school and I think it's odd when there has to be a disclaimer for the 6000 yr old earth crowd, some people really give home schooling a bad name. If you're those folks...don't buy this or any science book...go straight back to your holy text, there's enough "science" there for you.

What she finds is Dr. Alessandro Lucioni a man she had an affair with 5 years ago. His sister is ill so he takes on caring for his niece but because of his schedule feels its best if she boards at the school which is where Jem works. Written in the first person, you are able to see how Jem fights with herself over her past with him including the anger and hurt that he caused. He feels his career does not have room for a commitment to a women so what transpires is two people who want what the other doesn't must find neutral ground for the niece. They find out that they really both want the same things, it just takes time to get there. Lovely story and I am very fortunate that Ms. Milburne send me a copy for an honest review because its a book not to be missed.

Well his sister became ill and her daughter needs to come to the boarding school.Jem never lost her feelings for Alessandro and turns out neither did he. Jem never could find a man to meet the standard set by Alessandro!During the story Dr. Lucioni met Jem’s parents and operated on her dad. Jem cares about Claudia who is Alessandro’s niece and it brought back her feelings of at one point wanting the whole marriage, children and all but had put it to the back burner the last 5 years.Both Alessandro and Jem both honestly talk about their past and things that had happened to them which they had not talked about during that affair and which led to there being a total misunderstanding on both sides.This is a must read book and I look forward to other books by Melanie Milburne.

Excellent book for those starting out on Wordpress By John Moneymaker The first 60% of this book is devoted to those hosting their site on WordPress.com, installing WordPress on that platform, and the focus is mainly on a site whose primary purpose is blogging. I'm doing none of that, so at that point in the book I felt I had wasted my money on this book. However, from that point forward the book changed gears and gave me a lot of great information that will be valuable to me. It was well laid out too. So I'm still giving it 5 stars.

By Goldengate I am a visual learner. If you don't know what that means, it means that you learn by seeing something vs. having it explained to you. So if I'm sitting in a meeting at work and they are talking about a concept, I don't really start to understand it until I it up on a screen, or if I write it down as they are talking about it. Make sense? So if you're like me, you might want to try this book.I am learning Wordpress right now and have several books..... I bought the Dummies Wordpress book and frankly have been pretty frustrated by it. It's text-intensive and whenever I look up something in the index, it's not there. On top of that, even though it says it's for websites and not blogs, there are still more references to blogs since the author is a big blogger and this seems to be where her preferences lie. I'm going into that book because I'm assuming if you're looking for Wordpress beginners books that's one you might be considering.So as far as this book goes....WOW. This is what it must have been like in the 1960s when TV's went from black / white to color. This book is all-color, glossy, with lots of color pictures to help you understand the Wordpress interfaces. Each page is extremely easy to understand... and while it's presented in a visually compelling manner, it's not for "dummies" but instead walks you through setting up hosting and building your Wordpress site. There are lots of "tips" boxes with potential questions for each topic.A good example is the "Understand Plugins" section on page 206.... it is organized in easy to read text boxes (almost like a website, fancy that!) and walks you through the paragraph-length topics: What is a plugin? Free vs. Paid. Make your own... etc. The next page then tells you how to find plugins and walks you through the exact screens on Wordpress (with photos!!).... then the tips section for plug ins includes a question I have had: "Some plugins have a warning that they have not been updated in over two years. Should I be worried?" The one-sentence answer recommends that yes, you either update the plugin or find one that's been created more recently to take advantage of the latest changes to Wordpress.This book is so much better than the Dummies book...I am thinking of returning that one frankly. I love this book and wish I would have had it two weeks ago when I first started learning Wordpress. It's not too basic like some Wordpress books I've bought, and it's not too jargon-filled and cluttered (like the Dummies book) and it is so well-organized and easy to find info in.... each page even has a bar with the chapter (on the right page) and the topic (on the left page) so you can flip through the book and quickly find what you're looking for.I can't rave about this book (as a newbie) enough and would recommend it to anyone starting a Wordpress site (blog or visual site) for the first time. This book knocks it out of the park and after writing this review I'm going to go see if there's a part 2 companion book for more advanced topics like SEO optimization.I hope you like this book as much as I did and that you find this review helpful. An excellent way to learn how to use WordPress for basic blog building By Jerry Saperstein The “Teach Yourself VISUALLY” series has seen considerable improvement since its initial offerings. This volume on the basics of using WordPress is a solid example of the maturation of the series. First, WordPress Is a tremendously capable and versatile web publishing platform. It can be used to create relative simple blogs, as shown here, to very sophisticated websites. The more sophisticated features are not demonstrated here. Instead, the reader is presented with a step-by-step illustrated tutorial on WordPress, many of its features and how to create and manage a feature laden blog. The writing is clear and the visual style is great. For the beginner who wants a through, albeit basic, education on how to use WordPress, I would recommend this book.Jerry

This book has alot of repetitive information that is out there on the web but it also has alot of stuff that I had no clue about. lol. This is great for people taht have a storefront where as people that are maybe selling one or two items really wont see much use of it. It talks about Ebay's fees first (which has increasing become annoying. lol). It also discusses how to find help if you need it. Its geared alot towards "suggesting" that you have a store rather than selling without a store. It tells you how to find data for your store (who be helpful if I had a store). The rest of the book basically tells you how to become a great seller (promoting store, what sells, how to list). Like I said it would be great if I was a store and doing these things but I have found craigslist to be cheaper and easier. lol.

By Breia I had attempted to sell some things through ebay before and was quickly discouraged with the "work" behind selling. With this book, it would have seemed so much easier to get through it all and I probably would still be selling through ebay. I am definitely thinking about going back and trying my hand at selling there. There were loads of tips and tricks that I think would be helpful to anyone looking to get into selling on ebay. I love that it tells you how to set up your own store as well as driving customers to your store. After reading this book, I have decided to keep this as a handy guide as I head back to ebay to see how it goes for me. I am excited about the possibilities. This book is extremely helpful.I received this book for free or reduced price in exchange for an honest review, but all thoughts are my own.

I have occasionally sold a few things but with the way money is getting tight, this book is one that will really come in handy. I am reviewing the eBook so some things may be different in the paperback version.The eBay Seller's Guide give clear and concise instruction to get started selling but is not just for the beginner. There are tons of tips and strategies that would aid the avid vendor. They give listing tools that will help keep things flowing easily as well as how to set up a shop online, personalizing your profile, using social media to help sell, etc. As I said, lots of great information enclosed that will assist a newbie who is just wanting to sell off a few extras sitting around the house, as well as the well versed seller.

It is a true story of a teacher from western Kansas who went to China for a year to teach at a university. Joyce Dutcher tells her true story about her adventures---her students, her co-teachers. her travels during a vacation and her joys and frustrations of living during that period of time, Her story is told with great warmth and understanding of the times. Her affection for her students shines through.

I thought I was adequately protected, but early into the book I realized I was not. Mr. Rawlins provides detailed instructions for how to protect yourself. This book is remarkably thorough, yet easy to understand (I am not computer literate) and the author has a writing style which is enjoyable to read. As a fan of Film Noir, I was amused by the title and cover art. But make no mistake about it, this is a serious and comprehensive guide to protecting your identity, and, believe me, unless you are a sophisticated computer expert...you are probably not adequately protected.

This book provides key action points to protect your security and is extremely thorough, making this the only book you need to truly protect yourself. After reading this book, I immediately changed all my passwords, started using a password manager, and started monitoring my credit.
