By dreamsoup Note: Independent review, with no bias against author or maliciousness intended.This isn't a "grammar nazi says the writing sucks, write better" review. As an avid reader of erotic romance and a Kindle full of Ellora's Cave books, my bar for quality writing is already set so low that you'd trip on it walking in the door. I was really trying to dig into this story, as the priest/forbidden love taboo is one of my absolute favorite dynamics. But right from the beginning, I found myself jarred several times out of the story by cringe-worthy run-on sentences. I've read a great deal (100+) of romance novels from pro and self-published authors alike, and only a handful had writing issues serious enough to pull me out of the storyline. Only two of those made me regretfully put the book down permanently. I haven't decided yet if I'm willing to forge on. And that's a reaction you don't want - a reader weighing if they should wade through muck to reach the hidden gem within.There's both jaw-dropping run-on sentences (a large chunk of Emma's introductory viewpoint is one giant, convoluted sentence), and a strange aversion to breaking up speech into separate sentences ("Please, don't be so formal, call me Brent, everyone else does"). It makes me wonder if the author was being charged a premium per period. Every clause can't and shouldn't be glued together with commas. The last impression I want from a taboo romance is a junior high writing class second draft.I rarely, rarely post book reviews because I don't want to unduly influence other readers. So this is an entreaty to the author: 1) These are issues easily cleaned up by any decent editor. Even in the self-publishing world, paying for a good editor is key, and 2) If you are already paying an editor, they're doing you a grave injustice. If you're still relying on friends and family, it's time to upgrade. Quality in = quality out, and like any other product on Amazon, the best concept in the world is easily toppled by shoddy execution. This is one of the few books I've purchased without checking the sample first, and I'd even seriously considered purchasing the entire series at once. Lesson learned.

Emma goes to the church every day to pray and when Father Daniels tries to talk with her she abruptly leaves. Finally, during one of her daily prayers, Father Daniels gets Emma to talk to him. That one conversation starts an avalanche for them both. Secrets are revealed are new ones are set into motion.I don't typically read romance stories but the synopsis had me intrigued. Even though the book is a novella, Eve Cates does not disappoint. The story begins with a new priest joining a congregation in Rhode Island. After his first Sunday Mass, Father Daniels meets the Williams family: Brent the patriarch, his daughters Jules and Emma, and Emma's husband Gabe. As the story progress we learn why Father Daniels joined the priesthood and why Emma is so timid. From the beginning of the book, I knew Gabe was a bad man. I just didn't know how bad until the end. He is definitely a character readers will find easy to hate. I'm totally hooked on the story and am going in search of Part 2.Reviewed by Crystal M. for The Art of Romance

Great Taboo read By MAustin I really enjoyed reading this taboo story.You meet Father Braden Daniels who has transferred to Emma's church.Emma is the daughter of Brent Williams who is a huge donor to the church.Emma goes to church every day for 1 hr to escape the noise."I don't pray. I kneel, and I dream of a time when my heart was filled with hope, and the belief that magic is real. I imagine I'm anyone but me, and that I'm anywhere but here"Braden becomes intrigued by Emma, he feels a draw to her that he can't explain. Was she sent to test his faith?As the story moves forward we learn about a secret that Emma is keeping and why Gabe has chosen to join the priesthood. Braden starts to see signs from Emma that cause concern, when he tries to talk to Emma she pushes him away. Will Braden be able to help Emma?Of course this story does end in a cliffhanger, so have #2 ready to go.I am really intrigued on where this story is going, thank you for the great read Eve.
