By Matt and Amy Snyder I’m a UX manager for a software company and I often speak at events or venues where a UX introduction is appropriate - and sometimes necessary. Because UX isn’t common curriculum, this book helps orient oneself to the field. It has most of the terminology and concepts necessary for entering this discipline and starting down the path of UX. I could see myself referencing this book as I continue to introduce, hire, and develop designers who are passionate and interested in pursuing UX as a career.Included in the landscape of terms, tools, and concepts expected in a “guidebook”, there were some nice thoughtful gems - reflective of the authors’ experience in this field. While I think chapters 4, 6, and 7 are what most readers are looking for in a book like this, chapters 2 and 5 help drive insight into a richness, fluency, and sensitivity that often is overlooked in UX design. If you are new to the discipline of UX or looking for a quick read to orient yourself to this work - start with this book. My advice would be to read chapter 3 (process) after chapter 4 (skills and methods) - you’ll get more out of it that way. Also, take a highlighter/notebook and carefully savor the pieces of advice that speak to attitude and soft skills - they will help you get a job more than you think, and are crucial to development in this field.

This book gives me a quick access to get a general idea about UX. As an international student, I feel this book is easy to understand, and even if you are not in this industry you can read it.For me, the most impressive part is Ch3 The Design Process and Ch6 Jobs. Ch3 will get through a basic process. Ch6 Jobs is so useful to me, as I did not find any other resource of such a comprehensive introduction about how to find a UX job, and this is our final goal.=]Also pay attention to Ch7 Resources, it includes many useful books, which show the best way to dive into UX step by step. Anyway, this book helps me gain more confidence. It is not too long that you have to keep patience and take it as a task. Enjoy it!

By Irina Tolstova I come from a strong Visual design background and currently am working in a hybrid role (both Visual and UX). At times it can be challenging to establish good UX foundation from scattered resources online. This book saved me a lot of headache, it has everything I need from various design processes and tools to setting up user testing groups. It has a wonderful mix of design strategy and theory with current applications and use cases.Best part, it's organized in a way that is easy to read and comprehend. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone starting out in UX field or someone who is just curious about magical world of UX design.
