In my thirty year plus career in the classroom, I’ve taught more than two dozen valedictorians and salutatorians. I’m not certain that I’ve taught them much, but I am absolutely certain that they taught me a great deal. I have also learned one or two things as a Mom, as I helped my own three children persevere through thirteen years of public school. I’d like to share my experience with you.

High School Survival 101 By Kathleen Morrow This book is a wonderful survival guide of sorts for incoming and current high school students as well as the parents of said students. A lot of life lessons I learned during high school could have definitely been avoided with some of the advice given in the book. Not only was the book an eye opener for avoiding many possible high school conundrums, but the author has laced in just the right amount of humor. The anecdotal notes within each chapter really keep this informational text lighthearted and entertaining.

Mrs. Baxter is theBomb.com By Tyler Anita's brief overview of the nature and significance of the high school career is both informative and interesting, and is a must-read for any parent, even those of Elementary-age children. The abundance of advice accumulated over her career as both a teacher and a parent is useful, practical, and well worth the read to say the least.Mrs. Baxter was my teacher a few years ago, and I'm proud to say that. Not a lot of teachers I had were as wise as her, nor were they as liberal with homework. Not everyone in my graduating class appreciated her at the time, including myself occasionally. But she's a practical teacher, and I'm glad I had the workload I did. I'm glad I took her class because it taught me not only that I loved writing, but that I should do it more often, and believe in myself.I'm not going to tell you to buy Mrs. Baxter's book because I was her student. I'm telling you because she was more than a teacher to me. It's a great clue-in for many parents who aren't sure what's best for their kids, and I can say from experience that her advice on how to put them through school is solid. If for nothing else, go ahead and buy it just because it's a few chapters long, and you can tell yourself that you 'read a book' this month, which I'm told that the wealthy make a habit of. If you like to live your life based on that sort of thing: the habits of those better off in both finances and self-esteem than you.In conclusion, Mrs. B is an awesome blossom, buy this book, read this book, put your kids through school and push them at an early age....What?Oh, you want more? Well what do you expect me to do, grovel myself?...O! Would that I had access to such a novel before I completed high school, or a wealth of information before I entered my senior year of high school...--ALAS! Some may speak of prowess bold, power and speed like a Cheetah. But there's a spirit that can ne'er be told: 'Tis the Spirit of Anita. In the words of Flo Rida (not the state), [this book] SPINS MY HEAD RIGHT ROUND, RIGHT ROUND, WHEN IT GOES DOWN, WHEN IT GOES DOWN, DOWN

By Jan Lee Eppler I know the author as a friend and colleague, and admire her ability to clearly explain information that can seem quite confusing in ways that make sense. She knows from both personal and professional experienceswhat students and parents need to know.
