About the Author Dr. John A. Beck is a scholar, educator, and writer with extensive experience in biblical geography. He has a PhD in theology and Old Testament from Trinity International University and is an adjunct faculty member at Jerusalem University College in Israel. His passion is to make the wisdom of the Bible understandable to Christians, and he has been writing on the topic of biblical geography for more than sixteen years, both within and outside of the Middle East.

Full disclosure: I am a Pastor getting ready to lead my second group of folks from my church on a Holy Land Study tour with this author. I will highly recommend this book as a companion piece for when they get back. I'm also getting ready to email the "alumni" from a trip we did two years ago and encourage them to get it. It's that good!The author has a premise that the Bible is meant to be read/interpreted through a geographic lens. I believe he is spot on! So many of our Bible stories have another layer of insight once we have a basic understanding of geography and context for our Bible Stories.This is a beautiful book full of photos, maps, and illustrations. These alone make this book worth the cost! But there is such rich written content included for study, as well.I highly recommend this book as a resource for any serious Bible student! Add this one to your library. Believe me, you won't be disappointed.

Dr. Beck walks through the Bible stories highlighting the best of commentaries and then enhances our understanding of the text with vivid explanations of the culture, meaning behind the Hebrew and Greek words and how the topography, geology and geography make the story come alive. If you are not able to walk through Israel with Dr. Beck, kinesthetically experiencing the land and how it impacts the story of the Bible, this Atlas is the next best thing to it. As a pastor, I've come to rely on Dr. Beck's perspective before I assume I've exegeted a passage correctly. His insights take the meaning of a passage much deeper and frankly bring more help to those who are receiving the message.
