About the Author Kurt Caswell is a writer and associate professor of creative writing and literature in the honors college at Texas Tech University, where he teaches intensive field courses in writing and leadership in the mountains and on rivers in the West. He is also on the faculty at the Vermont College of Fine Arts. Caswell is the author of "In the Sun's House: My Year Teaching on the Navajo Reservation" and "An Inside Passage," which won the 2008 River Teeth Literary Nonfiction Book Prize, and the co-editor of the anthology "To Everything on Earth: New Writing on Fate, Community, and Nature." His essays have appeared in "ISLE," "Isotope," "Matter," "Ninth Letter," "Orion," "River Teeth," "McSweeney's," "Terrain," and the "American Literary Review." He lives in Lubbock, TX.

Getting to Grey Owl is a beautiful, soulful read By Elaine Wood-Lane A delightful book of travels essays, each unique in its perspective partially due to the different ages and levels of maturity of the author at the time of the travel experience in question and partially due to the many different places he has traveled and seen. For instance, in one essay written about one of his first travel experiences, he is very young and discovers that his brief trip to Morocco will end with him purchasing a hand woven rug before he leaves. However, even in his youth, he is savvy enough to negotiate well and still has the rug to remind him of the experience. His essays travel all over the world and even though each experience is unique and thought-provoking, his language in describing these experiences is poetic, wise, humorous at times, and beautiful. I highly recommend Mr. Caswell's book to anyone seeking a view through the looking glass at both the physical world we live in and a spirit moving through that world.
