10 of 11 people found the following review helpful. ARC Review By T Smith This was a good, solid, and realistic story with well developed characters that most of us can relate to. I love Sadie Black as an author, but to me, this book was missing a little something. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I think it may be that the story didn't immediately grab my attention, or maybe it was because it didn't quite have that passion that just seemed to leap off the pages between the main two characters like I've experienced from her previous works. Cole and Moneka were definitely attracted to one another, but it wasn't a mature attraction in the beginning; that came later in the book. Cole struggled to express himself, because Moneka was a contradiction when it came to her feelings toward him. It took Moneka's sister's accident, an unexpected development, and their parents' wise views on life for them to finally get it together. Life in general has a way of bringing that about one way or the other, and this book definitely highlights that very reality. Overall, I really did enjoy the book and will continue to read works by this author. She is very talented and as someone who could never even begin to pin a short story that others would want to read, let alone a novel, I have mad respect for authors such as Ms. Black who can write/weave a story that avid readers such as myself can read/enjoy/escape! Keep 'em coming Ms. Black!!!

By Lin-( Nerdy Bookworm) I was given this book as an ARC and asked to give my honest opinion on it, and here it is.I'm a fan of Sadie Black romance series because of her unique style of writing especially the Devoted series. Some books I don't like and some I do. I kept reading because the side characters hook me and I wanted to know whats in store for them as well as wanting to know where the story was going. I didn't connect with this story and just because I wasn't a fan of one book doesn't mean I won't like the next. I'm not sure exactly where I disconnected from this story. I think it was around the time when Moneka ( restaurant owner)and Cole (the contractor) was at the celebratory party and afterward trying to out drink each other then sex. For me that scene didn't seem to flow well and afterward it pretty much became all about sex between the two of them. The bones of a great story were there, but it wasn't fleshed out. The relationship between Cole and Moneka was full of ups and downs, confusion and indecisive that it was truly tiresome. I didn't find myself really invested in either of the main characters relationship, but this is a unique story. I was looking for more of a progression of the story between Moneka and Cole. This story was as an outsider was describing things to the reader instead of the reader experiencing them along with the characters.
