I knew just enough to see how the suggestions could be very helpful. I liked it when the author spoke from experienced and outlined certain actions that are recommended or not recommended, and why, thereby saving us newbies hours of frustration.I appreciated how the author sounded ethical and advised us to avoid certain misleading practices.I liked the glossary, which is written in a friendly, layman style. The glossary takes up about one-third of the book, at the end.I have some suggestions on how to improve the guide:1. The author states she is a successful blogger. What is her blog, and does she have more than one, if so, could she list her top three blogs that she owns and runs? There is nothing like proof in the pudding to showcase your authority. Also, we can see for ourselves what she does and perhaps inspire us to do something just as good, in our own fields.2. The book (I read the .mobi, or Kindle copy) could be more professionally formatted. It is decently organized and visual, but the bar is much higher when you have a business book out advising how to look professional and how to make money. One place on every Kindle page seemed to have a paragraph break up in the wrong place, but it wasn’t that disruptive to read. Also, the screenshots displayed within the book had print too small to read. Headings didn’t look like headings because there was no underlining, bold highlighting, or line of space underneath them. The paragraphs are all formatted the same, and sometimes this has the effect of run-on paragraphs that went on and on, with no indentation to showcase the strategic organization of topics (i.e. the main introductory paragraph would be the most left-justified, the sub-paragraph after it would be indented more to the right, and examples or discussions would be even more indented to the right, showing an hierarchy. There is no Table of Contents in the Kindle book, and I would have liked to be able to click on a heading of interest to me (i.e. about monetization, rather than flip through the pages all the way from the beginning when I get back to the book). For someone who is proficient at computers and electronics, I was surprised there weren’t any electronic cross links in the e-book that would allow me to jump around. The spacing between entries in the Glossary is inconsistent; sometimes one line of space separates the items, at other times, several lines of space separate them.3. There were some concepts that could have been better clarified, and the occasional typo. For example, the demonstration of “Gravatar” was excellent, with many visual examples, but when it came to “Theme” I wasn’t sure what the author meant. Theme, as in category describing mood or setting, and commonly used in creative writing? Or a background, using artistic rendition of patterns or objects and is all visual? A photographic example would have been great. Also, for the term “Skyscraper” in the Glossary, the author says there is a pictorial example below, a Nike ad, but there isn’t.4. There could be more lists and categories. For example, the “chapter” (there are no chapters in this book) on monetization has no headings or lists. There are some good lists (i.e. a checklist on how to make money from your blog) but sometimes there aren’t lists or headings where the reader would have really appreciated them.I really appreciated the monetization advice, which is, let’s face it, probably the primary reason anyone would buy this book (to make money from blogging). She discusses affiliate programs, pay-per-click, sponsored banners, paid memberships. That was very helpful. So, to wrap up this rambling review, the most crucial two things I can think of is, a) show your work, what are your blogs that made you so successful, and why not show your pride in them? and b) format this book to look even more professional, hierarchal, and electronically functional, since you can practice what you preach for a good blog page appearance… now apply it to the e-book as well!

By PFID I found How to Make Money Blogging to be a very useful and well-written guide about blogging in general, and using it to provide an income in particular. The introduction was perhaps a little too long when the author wrote about her own experiences and feelings before and during the process of setting up her blog. Although it made some of the text feel more personal and friendly, especially for those totally new to the concepts covered, Keesha Metcalfe did tend to repeat herself a few times. However, her powers of communication are very good, combining humour, enthusiasm and information in equal measure and she is to be commended for this. There is a very helpful glossary written in an easily accessible way and compared to a couple of other blog guides I have read it covers much more useful ground with its excellent explanations. I was provided with a mobi copy and then a pdf for this review but neither had a “working” Table of Contents or links to the author’s own blog. I would suggest that both are essential in an e-book of this nature, if only to underline and exemplify that the author really is technically proficient with this format in all necessary areas. Perhaps the published edition of How To Make Money Blogging has corrected these deficiencies since they will provide more confidence to its readers. Unfortunately for this spectacle wearer I was unable to make out the details in many of the diagrams/screenshots, even with my eyes an uncomfortable 8 to 12 inches from the screen. Magnifying just made the images more blurred. These latter reservations prevented me from rating Ms Metcalfe’s excellent guide 5stars, so I hope the Kindle edition now available from Amazon includes the suggested improvements!

She fully explains with enthusiasm and clarity the basic steps of setting up a blog the way it can be used to create an income stream. It is aimed at the "first time blogger" and covers all the basics in an easy to understand way with plenty of links and suggestions. Although I have nothing to compare it with I would say it would be an asset to the complete "newbie" interested in making money from blogging but not being sure where to start. As well as explaining how to set up the blog it de-mystifies plug-ins, affiliate marketing, adsense ads, drop shipping, paid membership and subscription, sponsored banner ads etc and provides all the necessary links to add these to the blog.To her credit the author stresses success will require hard work, constantly publishing valuable content and maintaining all social media accounts. So, in conclusion, I think if someone is determined to put in the work and has a voice/talent/knowledge to share the book will serve as a useful first guide.
