The illustrations are too large, too empty, and not sufficiently illustrative to justify their use of space. About ten pages were dedicated to showing the Watch's various faces, with a full page dedicated to a single photo of each face and a tiny bit of text. The same information could be shared in a page or two. This is one example of a problem that occurs again and again. A lot of information is repeated not merely a couple of times but three, four, five times throughout the book. Certain concepts get mentioned so often they become intrusive and certainly boring. Yes, I know I can send my heartbeat with the Watch, etc. Please don't tell me again. What's good about the book is that it contains some moderately obscure information that may be available elsewhere, but I have not run across it elsewhere. For example, the watch can be used at some Starwood hotels as a replacement for your room key. That's kind of cool. But, for me, it does not justify the time it took me to get through the many repetitions in this book.Another criticism, and I am mentioning this at the end because anyone who has read other Dummies books knows to expect it: the book is full of chatty verbiage that does not advance the discussion and irrelevant asides that act as puff and filler. Sometimes the casual approach of the Dummies editors enhances a book, sometimes it is counterproductive. In this case, it's my opinion that it is the latter, but of course that is merely subjective. I greatly preferred the Teach Yourself Visually book on the same subject.

The coverage seems too shallow. I had toruble following many of the instructions. Not even as good as the Apple Watch user guide in iBooks. I regret wasting my money on this title.
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. great written explanations of apple watch functions By Liz This is my second apple watch book. It's well done and concise. If you're someone who learns by reading this is a great book for you. Unlike the 'teach yourself visually' series volume on the apple watch this dummies book utilizes paragraphs of writing along with some pictures to convey the instructions rather than lots of pictures and sparse lines of directions. The book begins with basics about the apple watch. If you're undecided as to if you really want an apple watch this chapter will show you most of what the watch can do. It then goes into setup. I didn't have a book when I first got my apple watch and I did the setup myself. Honestly, you don't need the book for this as the software walks you through everything but it's nice to have on hand to double check what exactly you're doing in each step. The bulk of the book is explications of the various things the watch can do. Everything from the fitness tracker functions to checking stock prices is explained in detail. This is a good book for those who plan to sit down with an instruction book on the apple watch and read it cover to cover. I don't have that kind of time so I find myself reaching for my teach yourself visually book more often but I like having both books. The dummies book as become my in depth cross reference to teach yourself visually's digest version. When I don't quite understand something from a series of pictures I go to the dummies book and it explains it all throughly.
