The day after his concert tour closes in San Francisco, Tommi Rhymer, frontman of the English band Belshangles, comes to in a wilderness cabin. He has no clue where he is, or how he got there. In the loft above him lies fifteen-year-old Miranda "Andy" Falconer. Her perfect day at the Belshangles concert went horribly wrong when her idol passed out in the alley behind his San Francisco hotel, in a state of undress with two under-age girls. But she knows rescuing him to her parents’ Sierra cabin was the right thing to do.What she doesn't know are the physical and emotional effects of cold turkey withdrawal. Now Andy’s on her own in the deep woods, faced with a sick, furious, potentially violent man. She’ll need physical and spiritual resources she never knew she had to care for, outwit, and eventually outrun Tommi, before sanity and sense of humor return, and he recognizes the chance she’s offered him to put his life in order. Belshangles is a bittersweet love story, a tale of imprisonment and conflict, redemption and growth.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Been there, done that, ruined the T-shirt. By josquin A genuine slice of early ‘80s rock and roll life from an author who was obviously there and lived through it all. Several cuts above the usual vampire-dystopia-zombie-romance fare being peddled to youthful readers nowadays. (Despite the teenage protagonist, in fact it’s absolutely not a Young Adult Novel (TM) at all.) It took some time to get into the high-strung world of these odd characters, but once I was in it I didn’t want to be separated from them until I’d finished the book. Apparently the first of a trilogy. Let’s see the other two.

The characters are complex and unfold by actions and self revelations. The language is both precise and poetic. Altstatt has a well-stocked mind, She makes you want to read what she has read, hear or sing what she has heard and sung. Thanks!

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. I love this story By Virginia L. Adi I love this story! I lived out a certain portion of it myself, back in my youthful days of following musicians, singing Chant in the Church, arguing theology over the dinner table. I found it to be a believable fantasy, a dark exploration of sex and faithfulness, incredibly funny at times and poignant. I liked all the characters and kept wishing them well all the way. A gripping story from beginning to end for me. Looking forward to the rest of it!!
