An honest look at how we treat each other, why, and how we can make things different By Patti Shene Two top influencers in today’s educational system, Bob Lenz and Deborach Tackmann, have teamed up to create a book that offers sound advice on bullying. The authors challenge readers to take action through commitment to accomplish the goal of equal treatment for all human beings.Dignity is something everyone deserves, whether we fall into the category of gifted, handicapped, or normal. Bob Lenz cites examples of what happens in society when certain groups of people are devalued by others, as in the case of Adolph Hitler’s goal to annihilate Jewish people.Emphasized is the need to identify the underlying cause for mistreatment of others. People who treat others with less than the respect they deserve are usually hiding behind a mask that disguises their own insecurities, fears, feelings of inadequacy, and even anger.He uses examples from his own life, both instances where he was the object of ridicule or embarrassment, and situations where he could have made a positive difference in the life of someone who was a victim and didn’t do so. He describes the philosophy of his mentally challenged sister, who sees everyone as worthy of kindness and love.Bob calls us to examine the factors that influence our treatment of others, to challenge it, and to summon the courage to stand up for what is right against society’s system of judgment. He offers a definitive plan, complete with a contract and supporting documents, to encourage accountability.Included in the book are sections that speak specifically to students, teachers, and parents.The only drawback, and this is certainly no reflection on the content provided by the authors, is that the print was extremely small. I found it difficult to read the book for any length of time because of this. I would advise anyone with any degree of visual impairment to keep a magnifying glass close by.I would recommend this book to anyone who works with tweens and teens or has the best interest of young people at heart.I received this book from Life Promotions in exchange for my honest review.

Schwager Of all the inspirational/motivational speakers I have heard, Bob Lenz is the best.That he speaks to youth, and from the heart, and with a sense of humor to boot, is what translatesinto genuine transformation. This book is profound. It is written with wisdom, and humility.It is a guidebook - and I would also say a best friend - helping young people cope with bullying,depression, self-harm (cutting), suicide and low self-esteem. The book is relatively short, butoh so sweet. Bob writes, and speaks, with authenticity. Not only a book worth having in your ownlibrary, but one worth recommending to every student, teacher and parent you know!

I will say: 'Bob' but I mean the whole team of people who wrote the book. Bullying is a HUGE issue in our society even with adults. Bob catches the root problem - it's a value issue, a dignity issue. If we all saw ourselves in the light of dignity we do have, we would RADICALLY treat ourselves and others different. This book is what our society needs - an awareness of the problem - lack of dignity. I love the approach of it being an Anti-bullying campaign in a way that doesn't just say: 'Stop bullying'. It calls forth a positive action - to treat themselves and others in an honoring way. Dignity Revolution catalyzes the need to peel back the first layer by addressing the question: 'why do we bully?'Bob is great at capturing the heart of the reason. If you are an intellectual and ask: 'why?' 'why?' 'why?' - and like more facts and date- this won't be your comprehensive book for that. So - I rated an: 'I like it' vs 'I love it'.Bob's style is real and relatable. He leads the way by admitting his own weaknesses in this area. I love sharing the concept of this book with people. I find that it gets peoples wheels spinning on a fresh approach to this major issue in our society. Treating others with dignity is a life skill that needs to be taught - modeled & lived out. This book helps pave that way.I've implemented this book in a classroom setting with 'at risk youth boys'. They are a tough crowd and don't agree with everything that's said, or care to change, yet. Even if you read this with a student and they don't agree with everything that's said, this is at least a conversation starter and can be the first step in laying a foundation of revolutionizing our society. Awareness is huge and is the first step. This book does a great job of raising that. One of those major points I got from the book was raising the awareness of what motivates us. However, this book can only go so far - people who read this have got to yearn in their heart for change. But Bob does a great job in revealing the NEED for that change.
