I suppose I had the picture of a playboy firefighter in my mind. I think that was his past but he was certainly really ready to love when he met Olivia.I enjoyed reading about their journey together to discover many truths, including the big secret the Callaway grandmother has been trying to talk about during the entire series. It was a big secret, it just makes me sad that this series is likely nearing it's end.Colton and Olivia were sweet and very sexy together. What a perfect large family these Callaways are...always a mystery to solve!I look forward to Burke's story. He has been discussed in each book. I want to sweep in and save him myself. Can't wait!!

He is a San Francisco firefighter, like many of his family: father, Jack, is Dep. Chief of Ops., brother, Burke is a battalion chief, and grandfather, Patrick, is retired head of the FD. Olivia is an assistant to a famous celebrity biographer, longing for a career out of the shadows. For the past four years she has been researching and writing her employers books all the while he takes credit for her hard labor. When Olivia receives a letter from a senior citizen in San Francisco hinting at an amazing story, decades old, of intrigue and bravery by housewives of bygone days, Olivia is interested enough to take vacation and follow her nose to a story of secret abuse, secret salvation and secret murder.Colton, is tasked, by his grandfather, to protect his grandmother, Eleanor, from the feisty author. There are secrets to protect and Eleanor is suffering from early stage Alzheimer's. Colton and Patrick do not want to upset the fragile senior citizen.To protect Eleanor, Colton and Olivia begin working together to unravel some of the mysterious secrets and the sparks fly.....Now, if I said more you wouldn't need to buy the book. That would be a shame. I'm not nearly the writer that Ms. Freethy is and would not do the story justice. Suffice it to say that I thought I knew who the perp was only to be thwarted time and again. Masterful story telling while keeping me informed so that I almost made the plot. No unknowns here. Just have to pull the right strings.Thanks, Ms. Freethy, for a great story.
3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Loved the mystery! By Holly C Barbara Freethy has done it again in book 7 in the Callaway series. This is one on my favorite series and continues in Colton and Olivia's story.Colton is a Firefighter and strives to do his best and make a name for himself just like the rest of his family has. All his focus on his is career but feels like something is missing.Olivia is a writer and is in SF to write a story which includes Eleanor, the grandmother. I've been wondering what this big secret is that's been waiting to be told and Ms. Freethy does it exceptionally.Colton and Olivia run into each other (literally) and when he finds out her motive, he will do what is necessary to protect his family from any hurt. But the more time he spends with Olivia, the more curious he becomes of finding out the truth.Although I loved Colton and Olivia together, the romance was missing. Sure there was that spark but I felt this story was about the grandparents. There was more mystery more than anything and I did love that. It was awesome to finally finding out the big secret and I was shocked. I would have liked to see more romance between the main characters.Next up is Burke's story and definitely anticipating the release. He's the dark and brooding brother and can't wait to find out his story!
