About the Author Juan Pablo Hourcade is an Associate Professor at the University of Iowa's Department of Computer Science, and a member of the Delta Center. His main area of research is human-computer interaction, with a focus on the design, implementation, and evaluation of technologies that support creativity, collaboration and information access for a variety of users, including children and older adults. Dr. Hourcade is in the Editorial Board of Interacting with Computers, Foundations and Trends in Human-Computer Interaction, and the International Journal of Child-Computer Interaction. He is editor of the Universal Interactions forum for interactions magazine. Dr. Hourcade is very fortunate to have been able to attend every Interaction Design and Children (IDC) conference. He was Co-Chair for IDC 2013. He also continues to be involved with the wider human-computer interaction community serving as Papers Co-Chair for CHI 2016.

Great resource on design for children By Ben Shneiderman This clear compact guide to designing technology for children will be helpful to newcomers and seasoned developers. The ten pillars of child-computer interaction are a great outline of what is needed, with sage encouragement to work in interdisciplinary teams, support children’s inherent desire to create, and augment personal connections via technology. A brief introduction to childhood development provides a framework for understanding what role technology can play, as well as cautions about the dangers of excessive and inappropriate use of technology. The chapters on guidelines and evaluation provide practical advice from an experienced researcher. I’m pleased that health issues and children with special needs are covered strongly. The extensive references provide valuable links to the growing research in child-computer interaction. My only serious request would be for figures with example user interfaces and photos of children using their devices.

By Amazon Customer I love this book because it brings together decades of work in development psychology, interaction design, and human-computer interaction. I've been using the reference section heavily when I write papers as a sanity check on whether I've missed any important points or references. Given that the book is also available for free from the author's website, I HIGHLY recommend it for anybody looking to do research, design, or development in the field of Child-Computer Interaction.
