Linden McGregor is tall, rugged, and gunslinger handsome - a helicopter pilot with a Scottish brogue and charm to spare. He's also one of Stephanie Robson's best friends and has fit into that box for as long as she's known him.
Beautiful, funny, and an ambitious businesswoman, Stephanie Robson is one of Linden McGregor's best friends and has fit into that box for as long as he's known her. But some relationships can't be boxed, can't be classified, can't be tamed.
Back in their mid-20s and tired of the competitive hit-or-miss dating scene of San Francisco, Steph and Linden made a pact to marry each other if neither one of them were in a serious relationship by the time they hit 30.
It sounded like fun and games at the time, but as the years to 30 tick past and lovers come and go out of their lives, the pact becomes larger than life.
Sex is inevitable. Friendships are tested. Hearts are on the line. The pact is about to change everything.

I wish so badly that I had waited until the reviews came out before purchasing it but I never thought I'd dislike a Karina Halle romance.Story goes as follows:Warning spoilers1. First 43% of the book the H/h are both sleeping with other people or in a relationship with someone else. We barely get any actual scenes of them together as friends for the reader to at least believe in this incredible "friendship"2. 45%-79% H/h are together in secret but all we get are cringe-worthy love scenes with the most horrendous dialogue. Mind you they have to hide their relationship from her ex boyfriend/ their mutual best friend just in case he still loves her after not having been together for 6 years. *Rolls Eyes*3. 79% Heroines ex/ both of their best friends pulls a psycho douche move and hero instantly drop kicks heroine (that he's been waiting for the chance to have for 9 years) to the curb.4. Separated for remainder of book.5. Insert life threatening situation.6. Hero offers pathetic excuse for an apology/grovel7. HEA

Elsner Stephanie and Linden, who are "best friends" and are both turning 25, make a pact: if neither is married and neither in a committed relationship by the time they turn 30, they will get married to each other. Of course, we the readers know they are made for one another. But they will have to go through a whole bevvy of rather silly complications before the happy ending. That's OK and the sex, which as usual is earth-shattering and mind-blowing, eventually helps convince them that they belong together. But this book grew tiresome to this reader because of the obstacle that arises to their love -- which is laughable. Linden is best friends with Jason who once dated Stephanie and thinks he's still in love with her. Linden is quite a gentleman (and of course he has a Scottish accent and a penchant at key moments of making delivering long declarations of love that make Hamlet's soliloquies seem short and pithy by comparison). We're asked to believe that in order to keep his precious friendship with Jason (who is an ass) he's ready to sacrifice the love of his life with Stephanie. Who would do that? Who in the world would dump the love of their life and the best sexual partner in the history of the world since Adam and Eve for a drinking buddy?Linden eventually wises up as we know he must. But if I were Stephanie, I would be careful. Ten years down the road, this is the kind of guy who will prefer to spend his evenings in some sleazy sports bar with his loser buddies over staying home with his wife and three kids.

The Pact is a beautiful friends to lovers story thats fun By Christy Baldwin BBU The Pact is a beautiful friends to lovers story thats fun, sweet, sexy and a little angsty. When I think of books like this, Karina Halle isn’t the author I picture writing them. She does action and suspense, she does raw and gritty, she does emotion to the extreme, and she does all that very well. But guess what? Karina Halle is one of those authors that can write anything. That is some true talent. The Pact is a different type of book for her, but it happens to be one of my favorites she’s written. The Pact is a story about two best friends in their mid twenties. Linden and Steph. Marrying your best friend if neither of you are seriously committed by the time your thirty seems like a good plan, right?Through the years, this couple goes through it all. They both have serious and not so serious relationships. They have their ups and downs. Stephanie takes a big leap with her career and Linden is right by her side- her primary source of support. No matter what happens between them, one thing remains the same. They are best friends.Thirty is right there. They are both seeing someone. A trip between friends. Linden, Stephanie, their other best friend James and all the significant others. And a game of truth or dare.Feelings come out. Things change. The pact is still in effect?Okay, this is one of those books. One of those books where I LOVE both the hero and the heroine equally. How often does that happen? Not very often for me. Stephanie was an incredible heroine. I adored her. Her confidence, her strength, she was a fabulous friend and fun and spunky. Then there was my dear Linden. He was just wonderful. I loved how hard he loved his baby blue. Even though he didn’t always know what to do or how to express himself, he always had the best intentions at heart. While these two are discovering who they are and what they want, they are also discovering that maybe friendship isn’t the only thing between them. Maybe they can have it all. Just maybe, The Pact they made all those years ago could turn into the real thing. But there is something- or someone who makes it difficult.I can imagine that falling hard for your best friend has to be one of the scariest things to do. You are risking so much if things don’t work out. It’s not just a broken heart. Losing that one person that you count on to always be there for you, who loves you no matter what. It’s scary. But sometimes love is worth the risk. This is one of my favorite contemporary romances I’ve read this year. I loved this spin on the classic friends to lovers story. Both of the characters were amazing. I loved that it was light and fun, but had just enough heavy and angst to keep my heart racing and get me worked up. It was super sexy and steamy and just an all round great read. If you’re looking for a fresh standalone romance with captivating writing, lovable characters and an ending that will leave you smiling for days, pick this one up! It’s going straight to my favorites list!
