By missmickee/bookreview The close ties that once united the Taylor family unravel rapidly following the death of matriarch Lillian Taylor, revealing shocking truths related to family secrets and betrayal as novelist and short story writer Mary T. Bradford explores the darker side of deception that takes place in an unnamed Irish township in the UK.The adult Taylor siblings Willow, Robert, Sally and Lacey were shocked to discover when their mothers will was read in the office of family solicitor Philip Sherman, assets dispersed, their mother left only a letter to her youngest daughter Lacey. Unfortunately, the letter didn't reveal the entire truth, and left a lot of unanswered questions. This mysterious situation was quite upsetting to the Taylor siblings, and Philip Sherman seemed to know more than he was letting on. The stress may have landed him in the hospital with a non-fatal heart attack, and he provided additional clues following his recovery. Nonetheless, Lillian Taylor was not the loving supportive mother she pretended to be but a cunning, manipulative, bitter woman who deliberately withheld important vital family information for personal and financial gain.Willow was the oldest sister, and the entire family looked up to her believing she was loving and wise, she was closest to Lillian and impacted by her mothers death to the point of mental instability, and blamed Lacey for sending their mother to an early grave. Willow was the most colorful and interesting character, though the story centered around Lacey. At times the storyline moved at a snails pace, as the ending picked up, finishing abruptly like a slamming door."My Husband's Sin" isn't really an applicable title for this book, though it will likely appeal most to readers that enjoy Contemporary Women's Fiction. With thanks to Tirgearr Publishing, Ireland for the value priced ebook for the purpose of review. ~ 3* GOOD.
5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Rich in both plot and character development By Piper “My Husband’s Sin” by Mary Bradford is a compelling read about a devastating family secret revealed after the matriarch’s death and the repercussions it has on the Taylor family. The focus is on Lacey, the youngest of four siblings from a well-to-do Irish family. Sweet-natured, impulsive and somewhat aimless, the secret affects Lacey the most. The author does a great job of showing how she grows and matures as a person and finds her way to deal with the revelations. To the writer’s great credit, the other siblings—image-conscious, troubled, shallow oldest sister Willow, successful brother Rob who thinks he has found that special love, and peaceful, diplomatic, free-spirited Sally who grounds the family but can’t stay grounded in one place too long—are all well-formed, interested characters in their own right. From the minor details like cooking a meal, meeting for coffee, and going shopping, to serious conversations and actions taken to resolve the conflicts, I remained engaged in the lives of the Taylors.I have a couple of minor quibbles (they don’t even qualify as criticisms) that did not dampen how much I valued the book: 1. The title would have one believe the book is from the point of view of the matriarch, which is not the case. 2. The subplot about Lacey’s cat bothered me in that it was not resolved, and I wasn’t sure what the point of it was other than to show that during that time, nothing was going right for Lacey.“My Husband’s Sin” is a very satisfying read that kept me turning the pages. It’s rich in both plot and character development.

This is a cracking book with loads of family secrets, makes you wonder if your own family has any and what you or your siblings would do in similar circumstances. Would you know them after something like this? I enjoyed all the characters, although not so much Willow, she seemed a little immature. I loved the solicitor, Philip Sherman. The siblings are well described by the author, all such different people with different ideas, well thought out. There are a number of twists, turns and surprises which kept me going so much that I read it in one sitting, but at only 243 pages it isn't hard to do.It changes seamlessly between characters POV, going from each of the siblings in equal amounts, more or less. This is the authors first full length novel. Recommended.Thank you to the author for a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
