“Expertly crafted characters and a fast-paced plot are the highlights of Collins's second Lords of Anarchy Regency (after A Good Rake Is Hard to Find). Collins craftily combines sensuous romance with a touch of suspense, creating a delightful novel that will leave readers eagerly anticipating the next installment.” ―Publisher's Weekly
"Collins continues to to prove her flair for skillfully pairing danger and desire in the latest sinfully sexy addition to her Lords of Anarchy series." - Booklist

About the Author Manda Collins spent her teen years wishing she’d been born a couple of centuries earlier, preferably in the English countryside. Time travel being what it is, she resigned herself to life with electricity and indoor plumbing, and read lots of books. When she’s not writing, she’s helping other people use books, as an academic librarian.

Not exactly sure the title accurate - because there is nothing gone bad about the Earl!First of all - the hero is named Jasper. I thought that was awesome. I can't remember the last time I read a hero named Jasper. Lately I have been overwhelmed by Luciens, Gabriels, Jacks and the like. It was truly a refreshing change.Second the hero is not a man-ho, experienced? Yes. Slept with half the ton? No! Thank you Manda Collins. I love a rake - but like all good things - sometimes you OD on it and need a break.Ok, on to the heroine, Hermione. I really liked her, she is determined to drive and has finally been accepted into the Lords of Anarchy driving club, as the first (and only) female member. She has just arrived at her first club event when her horses are repossessed by a man claiming to have won them from her father the night before. Jasper steps in to lend his support to her. She bought the horses with her own money and can't believe her father offered them in a card game. She is devastated and grateful that Jasper stepped in to defuse what could have been a very embarrassing situation.Jasper knew that her father lost the horses and was outraged on Hermione's behalf. While he has been vocal in the past about women belonging to driving clubs, he does respect her abilities and has his own personal reasons for his aversions.Later Hermione decides to confront Lord Saintcrow and try to get him to return her horses. She and her friends arrive at his home only to find he has been murdered. As they turn to leave, Jasper arrives - again he saves the day and again he has his own reasons for being there.Jasper later confronts Hermione's father and ends up winning her hand in marriage. Even though he had no intention of marrying, he decides that Hermione would be better off with him than with her father.Hermione is less than thrilled to learn her father has lost her in a card game and is determined not to marry. However when it becomes obvious that she is suspected of murdering Saintcrow - she agrees that marriage to Jasper would be a better alternative to staying with her father. From here our unlikely duo start to fall in love and they work together to solve the murder and the mystery of why Hermione's horses are worth killing over.I truly enjoyed this book and was sorry to see it end. It had a decent whodunnit, some very steamy love scenes and a believable romance. I would definitely recommend this book - it could be a stand alone, but I would recommend reading the the prior book (a Good Rake is Hard to Find) first to get the maximum enjoyment from this book.

A delightful romantic tale By Marsha @ Keeper Bookshelf Lady Hermione is passionate about her horses and her ability to drive them as well as any male. When she becomes an unorthodox member of the Lords of Anarchy driving club she is understandably ecstatic, finally a female has proven that she has skills beyond simpering in a drawing room. When her father, who is addicted to a game of cards loses her team of excellent driving horses to another member of the Lords of Anarchy club, Hermione is furious and heartbroken. Unfortunately her display of emotions was seen publicly and when the new owner of her team turns up murdered – the eyes of the ton turn to Hermione as the culprit.Hermione’s devastation is not yet complete though. Once again her father gets in too deep at the tables, and gambles away her hand in marriage. Although she may not realize it yet, it was fortunate for Hermione that Jasper, Earl of Mainwaring was the man to win that particular hand of cards. Now this unlikely couple must solve a mystery and find a way to make their unconventional marriage work. With passions flaring between them one task might be easier than the other.Good Earl Gone Bad was an excellent adventure. While attempting to clear Hermione’s name, she and Jasper take the time to get to know and understand each other in spite of their sudden marriage. A tentative friendship will eventually blossom into a love that neither expected to find. Yes, there is passion between them that quite heats up the page, yet for me is was the slower unfolding of vulnerabilities and understanding why each acted as they did that was the true romance in this story.A richly detailed story, Good Earl Gone Bad will slowly, layer by layer unfold an intense, intriguing and satisfying story of two people caught up in circumstances neither one asked for – yet found a lasting love despite how it all began. I would highly recommend this novel for any Historical Romance reader or even anyone who truly loves a well put together, complex love story.*I received an e-ARC of Good Earl Gone Bad from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.*

By Monique D An exquisite love story, a captivating mystery, and lovely writing make GOOD EARL GONE BAD a Regency delight! What a glorious day it was for Lady Hermione Upperton! She has just gained admittance to the previously all-male Lords of Anarchy driving club, even though the president is an unpleasant bloke, she is euphoric and she celebrates with her best friends. However, on the day of her first race, to her consternation, her beloved horses are taken away from her publicly; her father lost them in a gaming hell. Jasper Fawley, the Earl of Mainwaring, witnessed the debacle and feels for Hermione, whom he rather fancies from afar; he is a gambling man himself, but knows when to stop. But Hermione’s trials are far from over, as yet again her father gambles, and this time it is her hand that he loses to Jasper!GOOD EARL GONE BAD is the second instalment in the Lords of Anarchy series, and Ms. Collins recaps some of the essentials for those who had, alas, not read the first book. I love the friendship between Hermione, Leonora and Ophelia, it feels completely genuine, as well as the camaraderie between the men. The author’s meticulous attention to detail brings the Regency era to life, especially with regards to the limited possibilities for women, as seen through Hermione’s eyes, as she is a headstrong young woman. The author displays much finesse and flair; while she respects the vocabulary and idioms of the era, the narrative is light, and flows easily, and the dialogues feel natural yet feel completely authentic.GOOD EARL GONE BAD is a meticulously constructed story which successfully blends a terrific mystery with a wonderful romance; the plot is very intricate and the somewhat unhurried pace makes it easy to follow. Jasper is exactly the type of hero I love to read about: he is a gentleman to the end. The chemistry between Hermione and Jasper is undeniable, and they treat each other with respect, they like each other, and O joy, there is not one misunderstanding, or idiotic complication. I felt I knew these people, I really liked them, and I can hardly wait for the next instalment of The Lords of Anarchy!I actually give 4 ½ stars.I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
