Review of SCHOOL BOY By Jerrice Owens 256 pages - Reads like 175CONCEPTOne thing that I love about this concept is that it blends the straight and narrow life with that of the hood, showing that to be successful, a person must not only be equipped with book sense but must also be with a good bit of street sense. It's rare to find this balance, and I applaud the author's ability to do so.STORYThe story plays out in your head very easily. The author is very skilled at establishing surroundings then hops right to the action which moves very similar to scenes in a movie. There were a few things that I'd like to know more about and definitely hope to discover the answers to in what I'm sure will be a very anticipated sequel.CHARACTERSThe characters, especially the male characters, appear very natural. They're all and all good guys but also have a player motif. To me, it's almost reality where most men generally want to do what's right, but the intrigue of different females is always alluring and most of the time irresistible, and in this case, literally fuels the plot.DIALOGUEThe dialogue gives it an urban feel, something that I think most readers embrace. What is much more touching is the interaction between couples where each expresses their feelings for one another. This writer I feel is truly an artist when it comes to the gift of swooning a females.STRUCTUREThe story is told in three acts: Todd during his last years of high school, Todd once he has graduated from college, and Todd in his senior year in college, through which the bulk of story which is told . The events of this time unfold over a few short months which slowly transition from tragedy to prosperity. The amount of growth and maturity that Todd goes through during this time I find quite possible with any person. Sometimes when we are put situations, it causes us to grow up overnight, and in his case, it sparks an awesome come-up.OVERALLI truly believe the author did extreme well for this to be his first book. He stuck to surroundings and characterizations that he knew so "the feel of real" is quite evident. The end of this book keeps you wanting more, and I am definitely looking forward to seeing what happens.Jerrice Owens, Future Bestselling Authors
